#12 Start my own urban garden, pt. 3

August 22, 2012 By: project30in20124 Comments

Time for an update on my garden. It’s been about three months since I set out to turn my front yard into an urban oasis and I’ve had some success…and some failure. My basil is doing supremely well. I’ve been using it in my kitchen for some time now. My tomato plant is almost taller than I am right now. It is sprawling and huge! But…I have no tomatoes yet. This summer has been incredibly dry, but I’ve been pretty consistent with my plant watering. So right now (about 3 months since I first started this project), I’ve concluded my urban garden experiment a semi-success. As you can see below, both plants have grown quite a bit from the plants I purchased. But as August drifts into September, I’m pretty sure I’ve missed the boat on home grown tomatoes this year. Which makes me pretty sad. BUT –I have enjoyed wonderfully delicious basil all summer long from right outside my front door. And that, my friends can’t be beat.

Yum yum! I am sure you will get some tomatoes next summer. This one has been crazy weather-wise and it just has to be perfect! 🙂

Are they getting lots of sunshine? Because you know, when you think about it… that’s probably why they are soooo red… haha. 🙂
