I made a couch! Okay, okay, I didn’t make it completely from scratch, but I definitely constructed a loveseat that I am currently sitting on as I write this. And guess what? It’s comfy! You might be wondered why I decided to construct a loveseat. Welllll, as much as I love my new apartment, there is one definite downside. My front door measures 26 inches. Seriously. That is incredibly tiny. Which means that my epic search for a couch has been… difficult to say the least. A friend and I tried (and failed) to get an extra loveseat of his through the door. We were at it for three, frustrating hours before throwing in the towel. After that, I conducted a search of some local furniture stores and was told that as long as my door was at least 30 inches wide, I’d be fine. Well, that meant that I wasn’t fine and had to explore other options. I stumbled across Homereserve.com and decided I’d try it out. Homereserve specializes in ready to assemble couches, loveseats, chairs and other living room furniture. You can mix and match your fabrics, styles and sizes in order to complete your home. I was hesitant to order a couch off the internet (mostly because I’d have to put it together) but after reading the many, many glowing reviews, I figured I’d give it a shot.
That meant that my Friday night (and Saturday morning) consisted of me taking this:
and turning it into this:
If you know me well, you know that I’m not the craftiest of folks. So it was important for me to put the loveseat together on my own. According to the instructions, it should take me about 2-3 hours. Um, yeah, not so much. I got started around 5:30 / 6 pm on Friday evening and finished Saturday morning. I took quite a few breaks, but I’d estimate that it took me about 5 hours in total. It’s so worth it just to be able to say: I built a couch!! In fact, I love my new loveseat so much that I think I’m going to order a chair and a half next!
