I’m about a month in to my half marathon training and I’m pretty pleased with how it’s going so far. The last few days have been brutally cold/windy/icy/terrible out and so I’ve missed a couple runs, but I’m proud to say that even with the weather, I’ve only missed two scheduled runs all month long! And I’ve run outdoors for every run. I’m up to five miles and honestly, until a couple of weeks ago, I can’t remember the last time I ran five miles. Now, there have definitely been some complications and difficulties. I’m developing shin splints, my feet hurt frequently and I’m hungry ALL the time (okay, maybe that has nothing to do with the running…).
I’ve been utilizing the Runkeeper app on my iPhone and it’s fantastic. It tracks all my runs via GPS and then sends me updates when I reach certain milestones. There is nothing more rewarding than getting an email after a tough run telling me that I’ve set a new personal record. The app even lets you listen to your playlists while you run! Which brings me to my next point…
What I’ve realized as my running has ramped up, is that my playlists are OLD. I desperately need some new fun, upbeat running music. Right now, I have a very short mix that doesn’t even get my through my shorter runs and I listen to the Girltalk albums for my longer runs. I love Girltalk and it’s great for running, but I’d love to mix it up some.
What do you listen to when you run? Any particular parks where you love to go running? I’m pretty lucky that I live in the Capitol Hill area, because there is some great scenery to keep me occupied during my runs. Leave your suggestion in the comments!
I told you already, the Jason Derulo Pandora stations ROCKS! 😛
haha, my running mix was from law school and i just finally got around to updating it last month! my favorite running song is Remember the Name by Fort Minor – but mainly, i cant believe YOU are having trouble making a running list! just put together all your favorite party music and youre off! And, ill lend you some Brit, Miley, or Selena if you need it 😉 And, since you are prepared, i think you should try the rock creek run with me again, its really gorgeous, and hills are good for training!
well, i lost a lot of my playlists when i downloaded the new iTunes. so that sucks. and amy – i love pandora lists, but they don’t work with my app… sad! tiff – i’ve spent all month avoiding hills in my neighborhood! not sure i’m ready 🙂
I normally listen to the TV when I run to the fridge for some snacks! But keep up the good work, and I enjoy the following upbeat songs:
Martin Solveig & Dragonette – Hello
M83 – Midnight City
anything White Stripes (for the beat)
Rage Against the Machine (for the uphill)
Kid Cudi songs (for the downhill)
Yay Court! Take care of yourself.
Is there a way you can send playlists to someone? I made one before each of my half marathons. A lot of angry music (Linkin Park/Jay-Z) mixed with Britney. I have eclectic taste, to say the least 🙂 I actually got my DJ friends to suggest based on beats-per-minute, because I always wind up running to the tempo of the music.
Hmmm, Megs, that’s a good question. I’m not sure – does anyone know anything about this? BC that’d be awesome!
Just heard a new good workout song – Turn All The Lights On by T. Pain. Check it out.
