Day 1

As of yesterday, I’m back on the running track. I’m using my RunKeeper App to track my runs and to build to 13.1 miles (again) on April 28, 2013. The app has a half marathon training plan that has me running 3-4 days a week. I’m playing football again on Saturdays, so most likely I’ll be running 3 times a week, with my cross training workout on Saturdays. The beginning of this training will be particularly interesting as I’m starting a Daniel Fast on Monday (more on that in a future post). As you might remember, I’m using the Jeff Galloway run/walk method this time and so far, so good. Of course, it’s very early in my training but I really am hoping this will help to reduce injury and increase stamina.
A neat thing is that I’m also signed up to run the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. That race is 3 weeks before my half marathon so the timing is perfect, in terms of training. I feel like I really need to give the run / walk method an honest shot before deciding if its for me or not. Have you ever trained for a major race using the run / walk method? I knew I’d find it difficult to not feel as if I should be running the whole time and I did. It also took significantly longer to finish my run, which is to be expected. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
