Eat Pray Run, DC

Empire State of Mind

This was the view from my hotel last night. The Empire State Building in all its glory was fun to look at. I’m in New York City for a quick work trip and I’m proud to say that not only did I work out (the treadmill run was short but hey,  better than nothing) but I ate steamed rice with veggies (and pineapple). So far so good.

So, what of this wonderful city? I like New York, I really do. The energy, the vibe, the skyscrapers, the lights, the people. It’s a special place. But what has been missing so far are the real experiences that make the city. I need a few days in Brooklyn, in Williamsburg, in the places where real people like me actually live. Not in this beautiful hotel room with a perfect view of the Empire State Building. Unfortunately when I come here for work, it’s impractical for me to stay in Williamsburg when I’ll be in Midtown the entire time. Clearly, I need a weekend here not constrained by work. Soon, NYC, soon. In the meantime, I will continue to appreciate you and your affordable food, cabs that are cheaper than DC cabs, streets that still turn me around and crazy fashion.

But, truly, there’s no place like home. DC, see you soon. It hasn’t been that long, but I’ve missed you.
