This week’s Friday Five is fun! Five things I’ll be doing in five years – also known as 2020: a peak into the future. It’s kind of scary to predict what I want to happen in five years but also empowering because I can make most of these things happen. Per usual, Iβm linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please, please, please follow the rules! Note that if you donβt play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a wonderful weekend!
In 2020, I hope to be…
- A mama! Sometime between now and when I’m 37, I hope we are able to have a little one or two.
- A faster runner. So, I have this theory…I posit that women (most women) get faster after they have kids. So my plan is basically to have babies and get fast! I’m actually kind of serious, haha!
- Maybe still living in DC? Ack. Who knows? I do know that I’ve lived in DC for six years and that’s the longest I’ve lived in one place consecutively ever. I can’t say that my wanderlust won’t take us someplace else – perhaps someplace more affordable.
- A published author. This is half professional and half pie in the sky. There’s a good chance my colleagues and I will write a book within the next couple of years. And then there’s my twelve year old dream of being an author. I have no idea what I’d write about if I ever wrote a book. But I can’t leave it off my list!
- Making a difference. Whether this is professionally, through my faith, or just within my own family, I want to feel like I’m doing some good, ya know?
This was actually really really hard. I truthfully have no clue what life will be like in two years, let alone five. But it was kinda fun to think about it, right?
Did I call #1 in my blog post introduction, or what! π Great plans and aspirations, BTW!
Thanks for the link up!

Lol. Thanks for joining in π
this topic can be hard but also so fun! great list!
Nice list of things for 2020! I did become a faster runner after having kids, that’s a good one lol.

I think you’re right about women getting faster. The 40-45 AG in triathlon seems to be one of the most competitive fields.

Yes! Women seem to be in their prime during that range. I can’t wait to be “faster as a master.”
So much fun to think about the future, thanks for the theme. I definitely made me think about my life, where I have been and where I want to go ! Kids made me a faster runner !

I’ve often wondered whether you and K had plans for little people, Courtney!! Um, if this is what it will take for me to get faster, though, I guess I’ll be out of luck – ha! I hope you know that you are already making a difference (and I’m sure you’ll continue) and you definitely need to write a book…we can go on book tour together. π I hope you have a great Friday and weekend, Courtney, and thanks so much for hosting another fab Friday Five!!

Haha, Tara I’m not sure if the theory will work for me but it can’t hurt. Well actually childbirth hurts a lot…hmmm. Maybe I should rethink this π have a great weekend!
It’s funny you say that about children. I’ve seen plenty of women get extremely fast and make so improvements after having kids. I think it’s because they take an extended time away and the rest helps to break through a plateau. That’s just my theory though!

Yeah, I agree. Plus I think the pain tolerance is higher after birthing a child!
That was so fun and such a good topic! It makes me want to whip up a post right now! The published author thing is great…seems so far fetched, but make it happen! Thanks for the link up!! π

I can’t wait to watch these happen!
I definitely got faster after having my daughter. My theory is that you have to fit in as much as you can as quickly as possible so you have no choice but to get faster.
I would love to make a difference. Good luck becoming a published author. That would be so awesome!
Yes! Another validation of my theory! π
It is fun to look into the future! Good luck with the baby making & then you will have to join MRTT!. Thanks for the link up

Some of us have gotten faster since we’ve had kids…I don’t know if it’s the kids that made us faster, tho!

Don’t burst my bubble π
Great list! Seems do-able. I had a really tough time with this one. Like you, I don’t know what next year will bring much less 2020! Thanks for the challenge. (I have LOTS of friends who have gotten faster after babies. PAIN TOLERANCE increases!!)

I did not know that about having kids, but I don’t have experience with that :-p All great goals to strive for.

I loved this topic–it was very thought provoking and really made me think about what I want. I love reading everyones goals/what they think where they will be 5 years from now:)

You are already doing #5 – making a difference! Your blog touches a lot of people and has a very positive impact π

Thank you for the kind words!
I never heard of becoming faster after having kids. That’s great that you hope to get a book published. That is one of my sister’s goals. She has been working on It for several years.
lacey@fairytalesandfitness recently posted…Didn’t think you could ever….
I agree- it’s super hard to predict where life will take you. I used to be the high school kid with the 10 year career plan- and none of that actually happened haha. It’s kind of funny to look back and see how much my life has changed since I was obsessed with planning everything.
I have wanderlust too, so hopefully I will be somewhere else. Preferably somewhere with less humidity! (Florida girl here)

I’m probably in a very similar boat – likely have kids (God willing) but a lot of it is otherwise up in the air! Won’t it be funny to look back on these predictions!!
Lauren @ Lauren Runs recently posted…Five Things Friday #5
That’s a great list & great goals!
So that’s why I’m so slow – I didn’t have kids!

Haha, it’s my explanation as well π
Sounds like a bright future and well within your grasp! Thanks for a fun topic!
Aren’t already a published author? Not “just” with your blog, but the articles you’ve written for other sites? π You will be a great mamma and I’m sure you make a difference already.

That’s true – I have been published. And thank you for your sweet comments π Btw, did you get your south block juice yet?? π
That is awesome you want to be a published author! I can definitely see that happening for you!
I definitely want to be faster, and also become a mom. Both I’m hoping to accomplish within the next 5 years!
Tedi @ Running with Infertility recently posted…Things that are Friday Five: Things Iβll be Doing in 5 Years
Great goals –
Mine would be.
1. Find a nice guy and get married.
2. Have a kid. (I’ll be 38 by then.)
3. Be working enough as a running couch that I can…
4. Teach just 3 days a week at one school. Instead of 5 days at 3 schools.
5. PAY OFF debt!
