2020: A Peek into the Future

August 20, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC35 Comments

This week’s Friday Five is fun! Five things I’ll be doing in five years – also known as 2020: a peak into the future. It’s kind of scary to predict what I want to happen in five years but also empowering because I can make most of these things happen. Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please, please, please follow the rules! Note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a wonderful weekend!

2020 a peek into the future (1)

In 2020, I hope to be…

  1. A mama! Sometime between now and when I’m 37, I hope we are able to have a little one or two.
  2. A faster runner. So, I have this theory…I posit that women (most women) get faster after they have kids. So my plan is basically to have babies and get fast! I’m actually kind of serious, haha!
  3. Maybe still living in DC? Ack. Who knows? I do know that I’ve lived in DC for six years and that’s the longest I’ve lived in one place consecutively ever. I can’t say that my wanderlust won’t take us someplace else – perhaps someplace more affordable.
  4. A published author. This is half professional and half pie in the sky. There’s a good chance my colleagues and I will write a book within the next couple of years. And then there’s my twelve year old dream of being an author. I have no idea what I’d write about if I ever wrote a book. But I can’t leave it off my list!
  5. Making a difference. Whether this is professionally, through my faith, or just within my own family, I want to feel like I’m doing some good, ya know?

This was actually really really hard. I truthfully have no clue what life will be like in two years, let alone five. But it was kinda fun to think about it, right?

I think you’re right about women getting faster. The 40-45 AG in triathlon seems to be one of the most competitive fields.

Yes! Women seem to be in their prime during that range. I can’t wait to be “faster as a master.”

So much fun to think about the future, thanks for the theme. I definitely made me think about my life, where I have been and where I want to go ! Kids made me a faster runner !

I’ve often wondered whether you and K had plans for little people, Courtney!! Um, if this is what it will take for me to get faster, though, I guess I’ll be out of luck – ha! I hope you know that you are already making a difference (and I’m sure you’ll continue) and you definitely need to write a book…we can go on book tour together. πŸ˜‰ I hope you have a great Friday and weekend, Courtney, and thanks so much for hosting another fab Friday Five!!

Haha, Tara I’m not sure if the theory will work for me but it can’t hurt. Well actually childbirth hurts a lot…hmmm. Maybe I should rethink this πŸ™‚ have a great weekend!

It’s funny you say that about children. I’ve seen plenty of women get extremely fast and make so improvements after having kids. I think it’s because they take an extended time away and the rest helps to break through a plateau. That’s just my theory though!

I definitely got faster after having my daughter. My theory is that you have to fit in as much as you can as quickly as possible so you have no choice but to get faster.
I would love to make a difference. Good luck becoming a published author. That would be so awesome!

I agree- it’s super hard to predict where life will take you. I used to be the high school kid with the 10 year career plan- and none of that actually happened haha. It’s kind of funny to look back and see how much my life has changed since I was obsessed with planning everything.

I have wanderlust too, so hopefully I will be somewhere else. Preferably somewhere with less humidity! (Florida girl here)

    1. Find a nice guy and get married.
    2. Have a kid. (I’ll be 38 by then.)
    3. Be working enough as a running couch that I can…
    4. Teach just 3 days a week at one school. Instead of 5 days at 3 schools.
    5. PAY OFF debt!
