Like many things in life, my 30th birthday is going to look nothing like I imagined it when I began this blog last December. I visualized a big, huge blowout party or being in some far off tropical location. When October 16th hits, neither of those things will be true and I’m pretty happy about it.
There are a number of reasons that I will not be spending my birthday far away or out of the country. High up on the list is the fact that I recently started a new job and as such, I don’t have a ton of vacation stored up. I’m taking a lot of time off around Christmas, so I’d rather not run into the negative as far as vacation goes. Additionally, my budget just really doesn’t support the cost of an out of country trip right now. Finally, I have so many things going on that I’d be inconveniencing many people and neglecting many commitments if I were to leave for a week. Thus, I’ve decided to stay home and do a bunch of fun things close to home. A birthday stay-cation if you will.
On the actual 30th anniversary of my birth, I will be enjoying a happy hour with friends and a nice dinner with K. Not too crazy, but I hope to be surrounded by the people I care about. Then two days later, I will scary myself silly at what is largely considered the best haunted house on the East Coast. I also anticipate spending some time on H Street later that weekend (hopefully with a visit from M!). Plus a family dinner at some point. Yes, I do realize that is no less than three different opportunities to celebrate my birthday. Hey, you only turn 30 once, right? 🙂
Sounds like you will have a great birthday! Sure, it may not be an exotic location, but you’ll have the people you love surrounding you 🙂
My thoughts exactly! And seriously, I’m extending the celebration for SOOOO long 🙂
That’s the way to do it–if you plan it right, you can get a whole month of celebration!
Totally unbiased statement: People who turn 30 this year in mid-October are awesome.
totally!
