Happy Friday! For this week’s Friday Five we are talking about five people who motivate us. I thought I’d flip the script a bit and share 5 TV characters that I think are awesome! Can’t wait to read on and see who y’all find motivating! DC area bloggers don’t forget that Mar, Cynthia and I are hosting a fitness blogger happy hour next week. Join us at Gordon Biersch for HH from 5:30pm onward. Can’t wait! Per usual, Iโm linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you donโt play nicely, we will delete your link. Also if you are racing the Army Ten Miler, say hi on Sunday – I’ll be there (albeit slowly – I did just PR a marathon)! ๐
- Clare Huxtable (The Cosby Show). Can any other woman top this list? I think not my friends. I think not. Smart, fun and just with the best parenting style ever.
- Tami Taylor (Friday Night Lights). Ah Tami. With her gorgeous hair and her giant class of wine, Tami just gets it. Everyone loves Mrs. T because she’s awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of a fictional character than when Tami demanded that it was her turn to chase her career dreams. Love you, Tami.
- Abby Whelan (Scandal). Abby is the everyday girl. She’s just like us. She’s smart and pretty but doesn’t take any crap. She’s made some bad choices (hello, her ex husband??) but she always pulls it together and she is a ride or die friend. The scene where she tells Olivia that there is no man to save her and she has to save herself? I swear I threw my arms in the air and shouted “YES!” And for that, Abby makes my list.
- Cookie Lyon (Empire). Obviously I couldn’t ignore Cookie. I mean, Cookie would be on this list for her one-liners and outfits alone. I just can’t get enough of her. And while I do not condone violence, I have to say I cheered when she got the best of Boo Boo Kitty in their fight last season. Loved it.
- Sarah Braverman (Parenthood). Sarah Braverman is basically the girl that was always a little too cool for school but super nice about it. Sarah always fell for the wrong guys…until she fell for Hank who ended up the perfect guy for her. She is an awesome mother and scenes with her and Amber pretty much guaranteed I’d be in tears. I love all the Bravermans but Sarah was one of my favorites.
Who would top your list of awesome TV leading ladies?
The only one I have heard of on your list is Sara Braverman. I used to watch Parenthood when it first came out but haven’t saw the last few seasons. Perhaps I need to Netflix that.
Yes you do! Great show!!!
yes, yes, yes. Love all of them. Especially Cookie Lyons and Abby. In tonights episode of Scandal I thought she completely rocked!! I was so proud of her character! I don’t know if you watch Grey’s Anatomy, but I think Miranda Bailey is a badass as well. I love whenever she goes off on one of her colleges like she did on tonight’s episode. She’s all of 4’11” but she is a sassy mamma!

Oh yes, I love Miranda Bailey. She is just awesome. Good call on that one!
Love all of these but Tammi + Abby top my list! Those women <3
Oh man, I don’t watch any of these shows! If I had to pick someone I’d totally pick Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec. Seriously, that girl is hardworking!

I am so out of touch with tv and movies… and living in France, ha ! There are some political women who inspire me, like Christine Lagarde, who heads up the IMF… she’s on tv a lot. Does that count ?

Aww, I love these, Courtney!! Yes to Abby and Sarah, for sure; I love them!! I’m off to watch some Scandal on the treadmill right now; I’ve been looking forward to it all week, Hope you have a great Friday and weekend and thanks so much for hosting!

Crazy enough but I actually don’t watch any of these shows! They do seem like awesome characters/role models though. Thanks for sharing and creating this as always Courtney!

I watch so little tv that the only one of those that I’m familiar with is Clare Huxtable LOL. Clearly I’m out of touch.

I love that Clare Huxtable is at the top of your list! Such an amazing woman who set a great example for her TV children.

Parenthood! That’s been our jam for the past few weeks. I am loving it but I find myself teary at almost every episode. Gah!
Claire Huxtable is a good one. I have always liked when TV (or movie) Moms have a little tough love because it is how my Mom was…random side note…apparently she and another friend used to joke that they were the meanest Moms on the block. All the kids turned out ok so I guess it was good for us! ๐

We are in the midst of watching Friday Night Lights and I love Tami Taylor. Actually I should say we are binge watching the show! I also loved Claire Huxtable….great character too! Have a great weekend!

Love all of these TV ladies, especially Cookie. Her one-liners make me laugh so hard!
I love Clare Huxtable, especially when she tells Elvin off. But then, he deserves it all.

I love Scandal and I really like Abby much better this season than previous ones. I am still an Olivia Pope fan though she totally rocks.

Leslie Knope, Parks and Rec. Liz Lemon, 30 Rock. Kimmy Schmidt. All the Designing Women. And probably my favorite of all, Murphy Brown.
I need to check out some of these shows! I only know the Cosby reference!
I have marathons on the mind this week so I did 5 top Chicago Marathon highlights for those not running. I originally said non-runners but that was not accurate ๐ Have a great weekend!

Parenthood, oh how I wish I could go back and watch it for the first time! Love that show and I definitely agree, Sarah Braverman is great. Loved her messy but real approach to life and parenting. Hope you have a great weekend, Courtney!

aw, sookie cookie! great list. I watched Parenthood early on then stopped in the later seasons. I’ve never seen Friday Night Lights – oops. and Clare – Clare, Clare Clare. She’s the BEST!

you would LOVE friday night lights, i think!
Abby is so itty bitty… but I LOVE her on Scandal.
I love Olvia too… talk about a girl who can work a troubled situation!
I love the Braverman ladies! Another one of my favorite TV ladies is Claire Underwood from House of Cards. So bad, but so good!

ahh claire underwood. isn’t she a piece of work?!
I like Claire on Modern Family. She’s neurotic and funny–kind of like a normal person! I also like Marge Simpson. She is such a good mom, even tho she stays with Homer.

hahaha marge! love her!
Haha I love Cookie! She is hilarious and I am always waiting to hear her punch lines! ๐

Wow, I am so out of it when it comes to TV shows. I guess I really liked Amy Poehler’s character in Parks and Recreation. I’m sure I’ll be binge watching Netflix while I’m on the treadmill and trainer over the winter so probably will have some leading ladies in mind shortly.

This was so fun to read! I am a bit out of touch with current TV, but loved seeing Claire Huxtable at the top of the list! I totally agree with you, great Mother & Role Model!
Cookie is my new fierce role model!
Confessions: I have never seen Parenthood, Scandal, or Friday Night Lights.

What?!?!!?! Scandal you can probably do without but the other two…get to binge watching ๐
Fun post! Sarah Braverman is definitely high on my list. I’m guilty of not watching too much tv, so not sure I can contribute to this one, lol!
