Welcome to week four of my Shamrock Half Marathon Training Recap. Each week, I’ll share how my training went and what the week looked like. I’m doing this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I wrote about my training plan here, if you want to check that out.
Monday: 4 easy miles with Rachael again. Another chilly morning – I’m noticing a pattern of cold weather early in the week here!
Tuesday: Track Day! I was up really late Monday night watching Alabama win the National Championship (Roll Tide!) and so did my track work later in the day. Woof. There was a wind advisory and at times I was running directly into the wind. Not fun. The plan was 6x800s with each 800 at 4:15. I was dreading this all day, honestly, and I considered not going at all, but that was just fear. My splits were: 4:18ish (my watch messed up the first lap, so I’m guessing) / 4:17 / 4:10 / 4:13 / 4:10 / 4:09. With recovery and warm up and cool down, it equaled 6 total miles. That was really, really hard.
Wednesday: rest day, Pure Barre class
Thursday: Tempo run day! I mis-read my plan and thought I had 5 tempo miles, when I only had 4. Oops. This run was tough as well. 1 mile warm up and cool down and then 5 tempo middle miles. Tempo paces: 9:09 / 9:02 / 9:19 / 8:52 / 9:07. Like I mentioned, this was a struggle and my legs were just TOAST afterwards.
Friday: Five easy Argonaut Run Club miles. Cold and rainy run, but otherwise not bad.
Saturday: I ran nine miles with my run club and it was really fun. The company was excellent and while my legs felt like total trash, the run passed quickly. It was about 40 degrees and CRAZY humid so another odd weather day here in DC.
Sunday: 6 early morning miles with Christina. My legs felt better than expected which was nice! I wanted to go to Pure Barre in the afternoon but I was just wiped out. I’ve been working pretty much around the clock, every single day and actually needed to be home to do some more work and couldn’t swing it. Hoping to get back to two classes a week this upcoming week!
Total mileage for the week: 37.24 miles
Total mileage for the year: 89.88 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 136.31 miles
