Shamrock Half Training Recap, Week 11

March 6, 2016 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC28 Comments

Welcome to week eleven of my Shamrock Half Marathon Training Recap. Each week, I’ll share how my training went and what the week looked like. I’m doing this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I wrote about my thoughts on my training plan after a couple months here, if you want to check that out.

Shamrock Half Marathon Training Recap

Last week was really tough and I antiquated this week to be a challenge as well, since I was starting a new job. It was definitely hard but I made it through and now I’m just two weeks out from Shamrock and I feel ready. Here’s the recap of the week:

Monday: I ran four miles after work for our local Oiselle team’s run club. It was a fun nighttime run amongst the monuments.

Tuesday: 3×2 mile repeats. Super hard but super successful – each of my mile splits was under 9 minutes, except for one. I felt very accomplished.

Wednesday: rest day from running – 6am tough Pure Barre class.

Thursday: Best run of the week. I managed seven total miles before work – five of those at tempo pace. Tempo splits: 8:48/8:54/8:51/9:06/8:57. I’m gonna be honest – running seven hard miles before work is not. easy.

7 mile run!

Friday: 3.2 morning miles.

Saturday: Long run day! Twelve super solid miles with my girls. We ran a strong 9:50 average pace and I felt very confident after this run. My legs (my whole body, really) was very tired going into this run, so to have it be successful was great.

Sunday: An easy 5k to conclude the week and then a super fun Soul Cycle class. Soul Cycle has been doing pop up classes in various cities and I was invited to the DC popup. I brought my friend with me and we had a blast.

I would’ve liked to get more Pure Barre in this week but honestly, with my new job, running lots of miles and just life, I was barely keeping my head above water this week. I’m proud of the work I put in.

Total mileage for the week: 35.38 miles

Total mileage for the year: 315.51 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 361.62 miles

It’s taper time over here and I am EXCITED!

Yay taper time! I’ve never done 2 mile repeats. That sounds hard! I’m planning to come cheer at shamrock so I hope to finally meet you IRL! 🙂

I generally am doing something every day. Sometimes I won’t go to Pure Barre on my rest days but often I am because I have the time if I’m not running! 🙂

Way to get it done! It seems like some weeks are so much harder then others when life gets in the way of running 🙂 You blasted though and made it to the other side stronger so GOOD FOR YOU! Keep it up and you are going to kill that half!

Two mile repeats are definitely hard.

Good luck with your taper. Do you want to plan a Shamrock meet up post race? It would be fun!

Where do you suggest? There will be some of my run group gals, plus some Oiselle gals so I’d love to have a central location for us all to meet up!

Congrats on an amazing and successful week Courtney! I’m taking a few days off for my knee, and have a PT appointment scheduled for Wednesday. It sucks because I hadn’t missed a run yet, but at this point I need to do whatever it takes since I’m so close to race day!
