Lots of bloggers talk about the summer slump – how readers and stats fall off due to people going on vacation and just being outside more. It happens to most of us and it makes sense. A lot of bloggers also take a little summer blogging break while their readers are away from their computers. I’ve though recently about if I wanted to do the same.
This summer involves a good bit of travel and some new blogging initiatives I want to get into place. That combination led me to decide that while I will not be taking a hiatus from the blog, I will be reducing my posting schedule from five times a week to three. This new schedule (probably Monday, Wednesday and Friday with an occasional fourth post in there) will free up some time I’ll need this summer to focus on work but also on making the blog the best it can be.
I’m excited about all that’s coming up both personally and on the blog and excited to implement my new blogging schedule next week. Also be on the look out, as I’ll be debuting some new fun things for subscribers to my blog (think more blogging tips and some running 101 things as well) in the next month or so. I can’t wait!
Tell me, do you adjust your posting schedule in the summer?

I do step back from blogging a little bit more in the summer time. It makes sense. Nothing is that enjoyable if you do it all the time, blogging included.

Exactly!!
I haven’t stepped back for the summer, but I only post 3-4x/week.

Ahhh. Yeah moving to 3x a week will be a switch up for me!
Totally get stepping back as blogging should be something that you enjoy and shouldn’t stress you out. That being said can’t wait to see the new things you add and look forward to seeing your MCM training recaps as I’m training for it too:)
Yay for MCM! I’m not stressed just going to use the time to build some 🙂
Ironically, I’ve actually ramped up my blog postings this summer. With a full time job, because things actually slow down a bit at work in the summer, I have more time to focus on the blog. But, now that I think about it, maybe I should be storing up posts for the fall….

Well, if I were you, I’d see what’s happening with your readers. Are they still around or have you noticed a slight drop? If your stats are the same, I’d keep ramping it up!
I haven’t necessarily stepped back but I have noticed July has been a hard month! I only post 2-3 times a week anyways…. and I don’t have a set schedule. I know I need to but with two little ones it is super hard some days!

What helps me is when I’m able to write posts ahead of time and then schedule them! I know it’s not always doable but it makes blogging life much easier!
Our blogging schedule was originally M-W-F and then we started participating in some link ups so we threw in a post on Tuesdays! We do try to take Thursdays off from blogging (sometimes..lol), but we will occasionally read some blogs that day, just not post one of our own. I think eventually we will go back to that MWF schedule. It takes some pressure off and it’s easy to belt out 3 blog posts for the week on a Sunday night!
Yes, I started off posting randomly then moved to 3x a week and then 5x a week. I’ll be interested to see if there is a big difference in engagement posting 3x a week!
I really ramped up my postings during the spring when I wanted to put out more coaching tips/posts as people geared up toward their training plans for their fall races. Now that I’ve got that in place, I’ve cutting back to 3-4 times per week as well.

It just makes sense for the summer. Also, I haven’t forgotten about your linkup. I’ve been working without a computer the past couple days (long story) so I’m waiting to get it back!
Courtney, I’ve been thinking about this a lot, too, lately; none of my book blogging pals post more than 3-4 times per week and that’s really why I started the blog to begin with. I feel like I’ve kind of gotten into a rut and I don’t look forward to posting as much as I used to; a cut back might be a nice idea!

Posting 3 days a week will allow me to do better with scheduling posts in advance!
I do take blogging breaks, particularly in the summer. I’d rather enjoy the outdoors and friends than worry about my posting schedule. I’ll probably take another week or 2 off this summer as I travel.

I don’t ever really take time “off” per se – I always like my blog to have fresh content, but I’m looking forward to really getting in a good system of scheduling posts further in advance!
I don’t keep to a blog schedule anymore. I like to post when I have something to write about!

That’s a good philosophy. I always have ideas, it’s just getting them down 🙂
I’m revamping my schedule too.. but putting in more effort than I previously did. I set a goal for 3 posts per week – but also promised to only write when I genuinely have a good topic to write about… we’ll see how it goes 🙂

good luck!!
I have yet to become truly consistent with my blogging. I can see how summer activities would make a consistent blogger or even a consistent reader blog or read less. Good luck with your new plan 🙂

I just struggle with consistency all the time. I am struggling to come up with things to talk about. Some weeks I go without blogging at all, and other weeks I get 2-3 blog posts up. It seems lately I’m pumped if I have time to get one up per week. OY

Maybe you should start being consistent with one post a week (and scheduling those posts out ahead of time) then when you can do that for a few weeks move on to two posts a week? Just to get some consistency.
I envy your organization and well laid out plan. I do not currently have a blog schedule. I generally shoot for 3 posts per week on average. Once I quit my full time job (again) to focus on blogging, I’ll get back to the schedule thing.

Enjoy the summer! I can’t wait to see your stuff!
I am not planning on taking a blogging break in the summer, I actually have more time to blog, life is less hectic. Glad to know Friday Five is continuing, I love it !

I seem to be following an every other week pattern lately, some weeks I post 5 days and others 4 days. Its not that I don’t have plenty of post ideas, its that I’m out busy enjoying all the fun summer activities with friends and family! In the past, I would have felt guilty about not blogging 5 days a week, but this summer I haven’t felt guilty at all. And unless I get some posts scheduled in advance, I’ll be taking some breaks between now and then end of the summer when we’re traveling. And I won’t feel guilty about it at all!

And you definitely shouldn’t. No guilt!!
I think we all need a break every once in a while! Good for you!
I like blogging M/W/F, plus Saturday coffee dates and Sunday faith-focused posts once in a while. I was thinking of switching to T/Th for August, but I usually have too much to say!

My blogging schedule stays the same. I hadn’t thought to change it during the summer. I do take breaks throughout the year if needed. Enjoy your blogging break.

Cannot wait to hear about all the exciting new personal and blog stuff you have going on.
I used to write 5 times a week and about a year ago took it down to four. I am considering moving to and sticking at 3 especially when the school year starts back up again.
