Have you ever had a run that wasn’t terrible?
But wasn’t great?
It was just sort of meh…
I’ve had a couple of runs lately where I’ve just not been impressed with myself. I’ve felt like I could’ve given more but for this lingering shin pain. It keeps going away and coming back. I’m pretty sure it’s because I had a few days (my weekend away at a wedding) where I didn’t foam roll, ice or compress. Bad Courtney, I know. I’m back at foam rolling and compressing and promise to step up the icing.
I’ve felt like I could’ve gone harder, run faster, run longer and basically just be better. It’s not a good feeling and I am not 100% sure how to deal with it.
Update: I began drafting this post on a Tuesday evening. While I felt blah, I pushed through a Wedensday run with a friend and decided to go back to the track for another speedwork. I seriously contemplated skipping my track workout, but pulled myself out of bed anyways.
And I’m so glad I did. While it was just as hard as last week, I really felt like I pushed myself hard during the workout and left feeling strong (and sore!). It’s amazing how sometimes when you just keep at it,
even especially when you don’t feel like it, you get your groove back in the most unexpected way. I definitely did not expect to get out of my run funk on the track.
Have you ever had a run funk? How’d you deal with it?
