Happy Thursday! I am linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursday! Go check out her blog! I just wanted to write a quick post because I got some exciting news yesterday (that you already saw if you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter). I am officially registered for the Marine Corps 17.75k race. Why is that so exciting? Well because once you finish the race (taking place on March 28th), you get a special “Access Granted” card that allows you to register for the 40th Marine Corps Marathon. Woohoo!
You might recall that I shared some goals both here and over on MCM Mama Runs’ blog as well. One of my goals was to run a new race distance. Well, the 17.75k definitely meets that goal! I’m also excited because although I’ve run four marathons, I’ve only run them in Virginia and Maryland (not sure what’s up with that!). Of course, I’ll change that this year when I run the Wineglass Marathon in New York, but I’m very excited to run my hometown marathon. This is a race that my parents can easily come to and cheer me on and my husband can really support me while I’m running. Plus I (hope) some of my DC friends will come cheer me on since this is an easy race to spectate! I am SO excited about this race. When I realized it was happening, I was just on a high all day. Even though I had done a tough [solidcore] workout that morning (recap coming soon), I had to run later that evening to burn off some of the excitement! The other exciting thing about this race is that I’m very familiar with the course. I’ve actually run the vast majority of the course in a number of different races and training runs. The last 10k in Crystal City is new to me but I think I’ll probably preview that portion before race day. This will be the first time I’ll have the chance to preview the course and that’s super exciting!
Have you run Marine Corps Marathon? Are you entering the lottery this year? Any tips for this race? [Tweet “ACCESS GRANTED! I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon this fall – who’s with me??”]

I think it’s great that MCM offers the automatic entry through this race – ad that the tied it to the year the Marines were founded – very cool! Congrats on both races! I always said if I do a marathon MCM would be high on my list.
Yay for being one step closer to running MCM! I’m so excited for you, Mar, Sue, Erika, and everybody else who will be running it! I’m debating between running the 10k or volunteering again. Either way, I know I want to be out there on such an exciting race day!

SO excited for you!!!! I have been lucky enough to run MCM twice–it is my PR marathon so that’s just one of the reasons it is so special to me:) As far as advice? Hill training definitely–and not just for that last .2 miles, the first couple miles are a gradual incline. That long bridge (?? can’t recall name) around mile 20ish was kind of a no-man’s land, so be prepared for that. BUT–MCM is a once in a lifetime experience with amazing crowd support. So very humbling when you are saluted by a Marine who places your medal around your neck. Hard not to lose it just thinking about it! Enjoy every moment!

Thanks for the tips! Oh yes the 14th st bridge – I know it well π I’m so excited about the whole thing!! You should come run it a third time!!
Very Cool News! MCM is on my race bucket list!
Me too! I’m super excited to run in my hometown!
Yey!!! So incredibly excited for you!!
Thanks friend!! You were great support while I registered π
AHHHHH you’re running Wineglass!? SO AWESOME! That’s on my list. π
You have so much greatness coming up this year!
Congrats on 17.75!!

Thanks friend! Yeah I’m super psyched about wineglass!! Heard so many great things! π
Congrats, that’s so exciting! The MCM was my first marathon so it’s very special to me. I’ve run it ten times, and would love to do it again, but my body just doesn’t like those distances anymore. I’m grateful that I can still run halves, so I can’t complain. I’m looking forward to following your journey!

Wow, that’s amazing. I don’t think I realized until this week that you don’t do marathons anymore. When was your last one?
That’s awesome news!! Congrats!! π

Thanks!
Yay! I’ve run Marine Corps twice and I certainly hope to run it again. Just not this fall π I think it’s an absolutely gorgeous race and crowd support is amazing. The first year I ran it was actually on Halloween and it was crazy to see how many people ran in costume. There is no better start to a race than an actual howitzer bringing you to attention. I think one of the absolute best parts of the race is the number of military runners and those honoring their fallen loved ones. It’s a constant source of pride and spirit during the race. Have fun and enjoy every step of it. You’re not done until you take that hill!

i’m so excited!
MCM was my very first marathon and I was overwhelmed by the crowds, but if you like that and especially if you live close, this is a great race. Just be aware. My 2nd and 3rd marathon was the Wineglass marathon, very well organized bu only a few 1000 runners. And I LOVED it! It will be interesting to see what you think of both races. Good luck!
thanks for your thoughts! i’ve run small marathons and enjoyed them and run bigger half marathons and mid size fulls as well. i actually jumped in with a friend from miles 10-16 of MCM last year and it was super crowded…i don’t think the size will be my favorite but i can’t miss my hometown race!
