April 2016 Goals

March 30, 2016 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC22 Comments

April is just about here and I wanted to set my goals for the month. March was a blur of my new job, running and events and April is going to be a blur of travel, running and work. I’m traveling for half the month, running a race almost every weekend (but none are goal races, so really just for fun, but still) and it’s going to be pretty crazy because of the aforementioned aspects of the month. So I really wanted to be intentional about setting some goals.

April 2016 goals

  • Run at least 5 times a week. I’m not following a training plan right now – I’m in the loll before marathon training starts and it’s great to be able to run easy for awhile. However, I do want to make sure I’m keeping a good solid base before marathon training begins. This reminds me that I need to work on my training schedule for the Chicago marathon. I’m going to be using the Hanson plan this time and looking forward to the training, while at the same time being terrified by it.
  • Give myself one down day where I am completely unscheduled. I like having a schedule and I like having a full calendar. But I’m entering a stretch where I will be reaching capacity and that’s tough. So I’m setting aside one day in April where I will not make any plans. It’s going to be glorious.
  • Make smart food choices. I’m going to be traveling for two consecutive weeks this month so that means a LOT of eating out. My goal is to make smart choices about what I’m eating. I don’t want to give myself an excuse to eat crap just because I’m not at home. And then there’s the wine. While I’m traveling, there will be a number of happy hours and social events and the like. I plan on picking and choosing which ones I’ll indulge at and which ones I won’t. Basically, just being very intentional about what I’m eating and drinking while I’m out of town. I don’t have a glass of wine every evening and I don’t plan on doing that while I’m traveling.

Have you thought about your goals for the month of April yet?

Running consistently 3 days a week. And 2 days of strength training. A bonus would be a long run on Saturday or Sunday to check my running progress…

This sounds great, Courtney; it’s wonderful that you acknowledge times when you have a lot going on and respect the importance of taking care of yourself. My big goal, obviously, is to have a really strong race on April 23; other than that…be consistent with my strengthening and recovery efforts!

April is the official start of tri training as soon as I get through CB this weekend. Hope to run into you there. When are you going to the expo?

My April goal is to continue to stay healthy and injury free as I trail for Ragnar Trail Richmond and the Chicago Spring Half. My personal goal is to get all of my spring yard work and gardening completed early so I can enjoy dinner and drinks on the deck with family and friends while the weather is fabulous!

I really like those goals! I need to set a goal for running. Since I don’t have a race I am finding it hard to actually go out and run. I can’t wait to see your training plan for the marathon! πŸ™‚

I find that setting a few big goals around races and then mini goals in between big races keeps me motivated and not burned out πŸ™‚

April is all about getting a back in the saddle and getting ready for my May races. I’ll be doing the Hanson’s plan both now and for MCM in the fall. Hoping to actually get some speed back this time.

I too try to make sure I have some unscheduled time, especially when the rest of my schedule is super busy.

I still can’t believe it’s April, as I haven’t even thought about what my goals should be for the month! I do know that I want to clean up my eating and get back in the kitchen…I was so lazy last month for no good reason!

April I would like to focus on my nutrition and pick up my cross training – need to get back into tip top shape! Unscheduled time sounds like a good idea; with the weather getting warmer everyone comes out of hibernation and wants to make plans. It stresses me a bit.
