April is just about here and I wanted to set my goals for the month. March was a blur of my new job, running and events and April is going to be a blur of travel, running and work. I’m traveling for half the month, running a race almost every weekend (but none are goal races, so really just for fun, but still) and it’s going to be pretty crazy because of the aforementioned aspects of the month. So I really wanted to be intentional about setting some goals.
- Run at least 5 times a week. I’m not following a training plan right now – I’m in the loll before marathon training starts and it’s great to be able to run easy for awhile. However, I do want to make sure I’m keeping a good solid base before marathon training begins. This reminds me that I need to work on my training schedule for the Chicago marathon. I’m going to be using the Hanson plan this time and looking forward to the training, while at the same time being terrified by it.
- Give myself one down day where I am completely unscheduled. I like having a schedule and I like having a full calendar. But I’m entering a stretch where I will be reaching capacity and that’s tough. So I’m setting aside one day in April where I will not make any plans. It’s going to be glorious.
- Make smart food choices. I’m going to be traveling for two consecutive weeks this month so that means a LOT of eating out. My goal is to make smart choices about what I’m eating. I don’t want to give myself an excuse to eat crap just because I’m not at home. And then there’s the wine. While I’m traveling, there will be a number of happy hours and social events and the like. I plan on picking and choosing which ones I’ll indulge at and which ones I won’t. Basically, just being very intentional about what I’m eating and drinking while I’m out of town. I don’t have a glass of wine every evening and I don’t plan on doing that while I’m traveling.
Have you thought about your goals for the month of April yet?
