B&A Trail Half Marathon Training, Week 7

January 22, 2017 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC16 Comments

Last week was a bit rough – but this week was MUCH better. I just was on my game, running-wise and mentally and that felt great. I also had an incredible weekend, including participating in the Women’s March here in DC and I am just in a much better headspace. Anyway, on the this week’s half marathon training recap. Each week during this training cycle (I’m training for the B&A Trail Half Marathon – a relatively small, rails to trail half in March), I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I’ve started a weekly link up for Training Recaps – let’s support each other as we train this winter! Please do link up!

B&A Trail Half Training Recap

Monday: 6 easy miles with Caitlin. Really really fun!

Tuesday: Another treadmill workout. 6×800 with 400m recovery. 1% incline and the 800 were at 7.2 mph. So hard but a great workout!

Wednesday: Rest day is the best day!

Thursday: Tempo Thursday! Five pretty perfect tempo miles plus warm up and cool down – 7 total miles for the day.

Friday: It was a holiday in DC and my office was closed, so I ran my long run. Ten miles out on my favorite trail. Really excellent run!

Saturday: No running but walked about 8 miles while participating in the Women’s March. It was an incredible day and a wonderful experience. We were all sore from the marching!

Sunday: Oiselle team run! Since we had Sally and Lesko in town for the March, we organized a team run. Ended up running 8 glorious miles with a wonderful group of gals. Such joy!

DMV Leaders with our fearless leaders, Sally and Lesko. A perfect Sunday morning! #oiselleteamdmv #oisellevolée

Total mileage for the year: 104.19miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 227.74 miles

How was your week? Did you enjoy the short week (if you had off on Monday)?

Most holidays mean that I’m working extra hours because my clients are off and want to fit in a workout. It sounds like you had a great workout week. I did as well, but I’ve cut my mileage way back and it seems to be just right since I’m no longer running marathons. Finding the right balance is key!

Glad you got your groove back this week. Every run sounds great! The other nice thing about good weeks is that the momentum usually continues into the next week, so I hope that’s true for you! I’m sure being a part of the march was an amazing experience. I know several people (including my niece) who traveled from Pgh to participate.

Courtney, you killed it this week! Looks like all your runs were on point and you got some solid mileage in. I love that you got to share an easy day with a friend and do the Oiselle run, and I definitely think the march counts as a workout because that’s a lot of walking. I had several friends who attended the one in DC and said it was a life changing experience to see that many women gathered for the same cause. I’m glad everyone was safe, too.

Best wishes in your training this week. You’re going to rock that half!

Sounds like you had a good week. I know the march was hugely uplifting for the attendees. Heck, I wasn’t even able to go and all of the stories and pictures lifted me up.

Keep up the awesome work on the training!

I’m so glad this week was better for you! And good job on getting speed workouts in on the treadmill. I may need to do that this winter.

Great week! I tried to rearrange my workouts to be able to ride my bike outside, but the weather was just too wet! First long run done!
