B&A Trail Half Training Recap, Week 10

February 12, 2017 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC32 Comments

This past week I was working in Chicago and didn’t have the greatest week but did manage to get in most of my workouts. Anyway, on the this week’s half marathon training recap. Each week during this training cycle (I’m training for the B&A Trail Half Marathon – a relatively small, rails to trail half in March), I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. I’ve started a weekly link up for Training Recaps – let’s support each other as we train this winter! Please do link up!

B&A Trail Half Training Recap

Monday: 3.7 easy miles. I had a tiny bit of time before I had to get to the airport to head to Chicago for work so I got in what I could.

Tuesday: Geez. I had a miserable treadmill run. 3 miles at 8:20 pace plus a warm up mile. It was awful and I had to step off the treadmill multiple times – so hard. I’m not sure what was up with me that morning but I was not happy. Sometimes it’s just a bad run…

Wednesday: Rest day is the best day!

Thursday: 5 miles by feel – the weather was FREEZING in Chicago – 14 degrees with a real feel of -3 so I just ran by feel.

Seen on my {freezing & feels like -3} run. I thought the lake was particularly cool this morning! ❄️❄️❄️

Friday: After a very long day at work Thursday, I decided to sleep in a bit and did not run.

Saturday: Twelve miles with my DC running group – this run flew by and the 9:43 pace felt great.

Sunday: Ten very HILLY miles out in Woodbridge, VA. At a 9:02 pace, at that. I also napped for two hours later in the day. It was glorious.

Total mileage for the week: 35.02 miles

Total mileage for the year: 186.21 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 309.76 miles

How was your week? Anyone have a race coming up?

Your pics this week of Chicago are really making me rethink my plan of moving. I know you had a rough run this week – but traveling is tough on the body – I’m impressed by the weekend mileage. PS – I’m going to keep up with you next weekend!

Awesome job getting in your runs while traveling–especially getting out when it felt sub-zero! And then coming home and having two back-to-back long runs!

Thursday was brutal, wasn’t it? But with the sun out, it felt a little bit better…

One of these times, let me know when you’re in town so we can connect. Thursday’s my day off work.

The worst part was ending my run at Whole Foods and then having to walk back to my hotel! And yes, I’d love to run while I’m in town. Typically my schedule is so hectic early mornings are all I can do. But hopefully next time, I’ll have a bit more down time.

Wow, you are speedy these days! Interested in a hilly run on the Custis Trail? We could start at Roosevelt …. (but I wouldn’t do it at a 9:02 pace!)

I think treadmill runs are so hard. And hotel gym treadmills can be off – if the room is warm, or the belt is wonky, or it’s just not what you’re used to.

You sure did brave the cold!

Um. NO! Lol. I hate that trail, lol. I’m interesting in running with you, though! Just not on the trail of death 🙂 Yes, the treadmill is my nemesis. Not a fan!

Great job on your runs! I can’t imagine doing double digit runs on back-to-back days…you handled those hills like a champ!

I still have never visited Chicago…I’d even go during the winter just for the experience!

It helped that I had fun groups to run with each day. My legs were a bit tired by the time I finished but it was good – not something I’ll do all the time, though 🙂

Awesome determination on getting your runs in inspite of travelling and the nasty weather. Those back to back long runs – you’re a champ!

Chicago looks so cold! I heard it can get really hot there in the summer though but I don’t blame you to just run by feel while you were there (especially in a new place and such chilly temps). Looks like you had some great runs overall this week, though, and glad you had a safe trip.

Whoa. Great job getting your miles done, in spite of the crappy travel week; WAY TO GO!! I”m excited to hear that you had some fun this weekend, meeting up with folks; hopefully, that and some rest helped get you recovered from last week.

Awesome job on the milage this week! Especially with travelling, I always find that my mileage and running tends to slip when I travel! and wowsers on 12 followed by 10! I deffo couldnt do that! Just a single 10 miler was rough for me this weekend! 😉

Your view across icy Lake Michigan at the Chicago skyline is quite different from mine when I visit in the spring, summer, and fall. Bill and I considered visiting our son and dil this winter just so we could experience a Chicago winter, but then we were like, “Naw.” He graduates from Booth in June and they will be moving back east so that window is quickly closing…

You managed some solid workouts despite being on work travel. Good for you!

Geez, I was whining this week about my “feels like 7” degree long run! I can imagine Chicago probably had some wind that cut right through you! You did get a good week of workouts in despite the travel. Good to be home, right? Enjoy!
