Hi friends. This past week of Berlin Marathon Training was my last build up week – this upcoming week starts the workouts. It also coincides with a major week of work travel. I’m in Chicago and will have a long week of extreme work hours and numerous events. It’s not the best timing, but I’m going to make the best of it and I am striving to get in all my workouts even though I’m traveling. I’ll report back next week!
Monday: Last Monday rest day! I took it and enjoyed it. This week was intense, work wise and I worked long hours and didn’t get a ton of sleep so this rest day was needed!
Tuesday: 5.3 easy humid miles with my friend Jen. This humidity has been out of control. I’m definitely not acclimated yet so every humid run feels incredibly hard. I know it’ll get better though.
Wednesday: Rest and again, I enjoyed it.
Thursday: Easy 5k before work. A bit less humid so I definitely appreciated that.
Friday: 3.2 before work – nothing too interesting about this run aside from the fact that I REALLY didn’t want to run but I did it anyway. Persistence for the win.
Saturday: I had 6 miles on my schedule, but ran 10 with my Saturday running group because I knew I’d be in Atlanta Sunday morning and figured I would want to sleep in. We ran a loop around Capitol Hill and also celebrated Global Sports Bra Squad day as well. Not surprisingly, it was crazy humid so the sports bras were appropriate!
Sunday: As I mentioned, I did not run since I combined my Saturday and Sunday runs into Saturday. That was a smart decision because we were out until 2am Saturday night!
Total mileage for the week: 21.52 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 95.85 miles
Total mileage for the year: 604.05 miles
I run a lot while on work travel, but I’m pretty sure this upcoming week is going to be the first time I’ve started my speed work while traveling. Have you ever done hard workouts away from home?

I have no doubt that you’ll be able to keep up with your training this week. You always do such a great job remaining committed to your training even when you’ve had a busy schedule in the past.

Thanks for the kind words – it helps to keep me motivated 🙂
Looks like an awesome week – I’m sure that run on Saturday was so much fun!
I was just in Chicago from Wed-Fri for a work conference – I love that city! I know it’s hard to get in all your workouts when you travel but I’m sure that you’ll find a way to get everything in this week!
The weather here is so much better than home!!!!
I don’t travel much to do speedwork away from home- if I do travel and run I typically just run easy because I’m not gone very long. If you feel unsafe, definitely use the hotel treadmill or maybe even think about a day pass or week pass at a gym to get workouts in? I have done that before and paid the guest fee and it’s not so bad. It kinda guarantees you get your workout in so it’s worth it. Be safe out there and have a good week!
Thanks! This morning I scoped out a track that’s free and about a mile from my hotel. I’ll use that tomorrow and then run along the lake the rest of the week (where I normally run). The weather here is amazing (55 and low humidity this morning!!!)
Great week of training. Even thought you might have challenges with your travel next week, it must be exciting to get down to business with your training! What will you be doing for your speed work while you are away?
12×400 tomorrow morning 🙂
Do we ever actually get acclimated to the humidity? I was wondering that this weekend 😉 I’m already dreaming about fall, personally. Great work this week – hope you have a good week of training in Chicago.
The weather is SOOOOO much better here – it was downright glorious this morning!
I know some people do speedwork on treadmills, but I’d much prefer being outside!

I hate the treadmill and will avoid it to the best of my ability 🙂
The weather this week will be awesome! I am excited! Glad you have that track for your workout tomorrow which I think is 12×400?
I know you mentioned that you have a lot of work functions but I hope you get to enjoy your week here.
Thanks – and yes, 12×400. The weather is already making this a great week!! 🙂
Good idea to combine your weekend runs into one! Good luck this week! In case you find the workouts aren’t working, my Hansons coach said she likes to have people do fartleks on travel because it’s easier to run by time than distance when you’re some place unfamiliar.
Thanks – I scoped out the track I’m planning to use on my run this morning so i’m hoping it’ll work out. The tempo run is fine – the spadework is what made me nervous – hoping it goes well!
I admire your discipline in getting runs in in spite of your several travels. Great job gal. Can’t wait to see how you progress (and BQ). Good luck!
Thanks! It can be hard to get it in while traveling but the more I do it, the more committed I am to it!
“Every humid run feels incredibly hard” Umm, YES! EVERY one! Paces and distances that should feel easy breezy feel like I’ve never run before. I’m still struggling too.
I don’t envy you having to juggle a hard week of training with travel and a busy schedule, but if anyone can handle it, it’s you! Good luck smashing it as always!
Thanks Tracy – I just finished my last workout of the week and boy am I glad 🙂
Can’t believe you are already through the building phase! You are going to rock it this week!!!

Oh my gosh, I also can’t believe I’m into the next phase! I know I’ve done this before but it’s still intimidating!!
