Berlin Marathon Training Recap – One Week to Go!

September 17, 2017 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC22 Comments

Hi friends! This time next week I will have finished my 8th marathon and hopefully have a sub-4 marathon finish under my belt! I have a couple of more blog posts coming this week – one on mental doubts and another on my goals for Berlin but I will not be taking my computer with me, so you won’t see any blog posts about my race until I’m back in the states. As such, this will be my last training recap – I will recap the race once I’m back. You can follow along on my adventure via Instagram, however.

Berlin Marathon Training Recap

Monday: Recall that I spent this past week in Chicago for work. It was a week of late nights and early mornings and I knew that it would be tough to get all my runs in but vowed to do my best. Ran an easy 5 miles to start the week.

Tuesday: My friend Michaela was in Chicago for work and so we ran my 6×1 workout together and I was grateful for the company – it was unusually humid and sticky for Chicago, which made the workout kind of brutal. But we got it done, which is all that matters!

Wednesday: Rest day is the best day!

Thursday: Thursday was tricky. I had a work event Wednesday night that I knew would go very late. I knew I was signed up to run a 5k after work with my colleagues so I decided that I would just get in a few miles before the 5k and use that as my last tempo workout. I made the right decision because I didn’t get home to my hotel until 1am Thursday morning! So I ran the 5k plus a bit extra and had 6 fast miles for the day.

Friday: A few easy miles before heading back to DC.

Saturday: Last double digit run before the race! 10 miles would my group.

Sunday: A couple of easy miles while spectating the Navy Air Force Half marathon here in DC.

Well, this is it friends. The hay is in the barn. Wish me luck!

Total mileage for the week: 34.01 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 574 miles

Total mileage for the year: 1079.2 miles

Good luck to all of you racing over the next couple of weeks!

Great job with training and squeezing in the miles when you could with the work trip to Chicago. I can’t wait to see your instagram posts and read your Berlin race recap. I don’t blame you not to take your computer because phones do almost everything, and you can post on wordpress from one but I can’t imagine typing out a blog post on that screen (yikes). I do often respond to comments from my phone which is helpful!

I’m really proud of you for squeezing in so many miles in your training cycle, despite summer, traveling, and even that calf issue when you had to take a little break. So many other runners would use those things as excuses and skip workouts, but you have gotten them all in pretty much and had a great cycle!

Thank you – your words always resonate with me and I really appreciate your feedback on my training. It always means a lot to me.

I’m actually responding to this on my phone now. πŸ™‚ I do sometimes draft posts from my phone but never post them – it is too dicey in my opinion. I love writing but I’ll be using a physical journal on this trip. πŸ™‚

Great work this week! It is hard for me to think that I am running my next marathon in a little over a month…my brain was stuck in low, slow ultra training and now I want to get a little speed back on my legs : )

Good luck indeed! and good job on getting all of the runs done. A few of my friends ran the Air Force marathon. Sounded like it was a good day – on a challenging course!
