The Best Race Swag

July 16, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC44 Comments

Happy Friday, y’all! Whew! This week has been quite full and as I’m probably on a plane while you are reading this, it just keeps getting fuller! This week’s theme is all about swag…race swag in particular. We’re talking about the best race swag. Fun! In case you missed it last week, we have our updated list of themes for the remainder of the summer and you can find them all here. Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please, please, please follow the rules! Note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a wonderful weekend!

Best Race Swag!

This was a fun and easy list to make. I love a lot of race swag but my top five list is pretty clear.

  1. Richmond Marathon Blanket. Oh man. You can see this year’s version my pic above. The blankets that Richmond gives out each year are fantastic and I use mine almost everyday. Seriously. The best. Cozy and big enough to cover me during an afternoon nap!
  2. Hats! I love a good running hat. They come in handy during rainy runs and during really hot days. I can’t get enough.
  3. Marine Corps 17.75k muffler. I’m not sure if I’m using the right name but basically it’s a piece of light fabric that I used on race day to cover my cold ears and I take it with me on hot days to wipe my copious amounts of sweat. I love that thing.
  4. Nike Women’s Half Tiffany’s necklace. That thing cost me a lot of money (the race was $$$) but it’s beautiful and I wear it a LOT.
  5. Entry into the Marine Corps Marathon. Thank you, Marine Corps 17.75k. That was well earned (recap here).

What tops your list??

What a fun link up theme this week! It’s been a few weeks since I participated (I know shame on me) but I was glad to see this one! I still love the finisher medal but I also like that some races are branching out and their swag packs are filled with other goodies. I loved getting a beach towel from the Mercedes Half and it came in handy that day too! One I did not think about was glasses or even coffee mugs I’d so use these if I got them. Thanks for the link up and have a safe trip!

I love when races give you items you can actually use ( like a blanket or beach towel), but I like those things in addition to the medal, not instead of. Hmm, that makes me sound like a greedy runner doesn’t it???? Lol

I tweaked the theme today a little b/c I was thinking bling (and that is not my thing!) Flying Pig Marathon and the Akron Marathon have awesome swag. Go Ohio! Also the Soldier Field 10 here in Chicago usually has cool things like stadium blankets… now you have me thinking! πŸ™‚ Happy Friday and thanks for the link up!

The Eugene half’s swag bag was one of those cloth bags for grocery stores. I use it all the time when I go to Sprout’s since I get $0.05 off with each reusable bag I have.

I STILL WANT ONE OF THOSE BLANKETS, Courtney!! Well, then I should get my butt over there and run a marathon, huh? πŸ˜‰ Yep, I know the answer to that one – ha! I’ve always said I wanted to do the Nike race so that I could have a Tiffany necklace; with travel, etc., it would probably be cheaper just to buy a necklace. Hope you have a great weekend and that you are able to get a little relaxation time in, too.

I agree with the Richmond blanket! Especially for a November race that thing is perfect. The first time I ran the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in VT/NH I received Asics technical socks and I love getting socks at the finish line. Mainly because I always forget to pack socks to change into. Favorite medal/SWAG might be the Baltimore Running Festival. This year’s medal doubles as a bottle opener and you can’t beat the Under Armor shirts that are given out every year.

Escape from Alcatraz gave out really nice workout bags-they are small and just right for swim gear (all except the kick board!) I got a bottle of “Bloody Red” wine from the Sharkfest swim, and I always love getting beer mugs/pottery from races. I have accumulated some award tiles and will soon put them into a wrought iron table – and I DO wear my hats I get at the finish line!
