To be honest, I never think about blog maintenance until something goes wrong. That’s how it goes, right? Well, unfortunately I’ve been thinking about blog maintenance a heck of a lot lately! I thought for this week’s Blogger Tip Tuesday, I’d share what I do when something goes wrong with my blog. It ain’t sexy, but it’s real, y’all!
So what was going wrong? Oh man, for awhile it felt like everything. My site was slow to load, sometimes it wouldn’t load (like for a period of 36 frustrating hours), I couldn’t respond to comments, I was getting a ton of error messages. Ugh. It was super annoying especially because I’m not super techie. When the troubles first started, it appeared that my server was under a DDOS attack (I can’t really explain what that means to you because, not a technie, remember). I had to just wait it out. When it appeared that it was happening again, I started freaking out. I did a little research and a couple of people recommended WP Sitecare to me. During the midst of my site being down (and not even being able to access it), I sent an SOS message to the WP Sitecare team. I had a response within twenty minutes and from there, Matt was incredibly helpful. He walked me through the problems he saw on my site and explained what it cost to fix everything a la carte versus signing up for one of their packages. I decided to sign up for one of their yearly packages and the second I did, I felt a weight lifted off of me. Matt, my WP Sitecare guy, took over and literally handled everything for me. My site was back up and running by the next morning and it’s been smooth sailing since then. If your site has grown exponentially (probably a big part of the reason for my problems) or if you just need someone to help when it goes down, I highly recommend WP Sitecare. I want to note that I’m not getting anything nor was I asked to write this post. I was just so blown away by the service that I had to share my experience with y’all.
Has your site ever gone down? Did you fix it yourself or get help?
