This week’s Blogger Tip Tuesday focuses on how Pinterest grew my blog. Pinterest is an amazing resource for bloggers. While I started off a bit weary, I’ve grown to absolutely love it. I’ve talked a bit about Pinterest before (here and here), but for this week’s post I wanted to specifically address how Pinterest helped to more than double my pageviews.
Over the course of 2014, Pinterest became the number one source of traffic to my blog. It blew every other traffic referral source out of the water (if you want all the numbers, check out this post) by a lot. This was not the case in 2013. So what changed and how can you use Pinterest to help grow your blog? A few things:
- Group boards. I’m a part of two or three group boards (and looking for more to join) and these are great. Group boards ensure your content gets seen by many more people than just your board alone. I also find that they can be really reliable sources of interesting content. I pick up a lot of blogging tips from a couple of the group boards I’m in. Looking for a group board? You can search for them (I host one on blogging here) and follow the instructions on how to join. Make sure not to spam group boards with your own content. I probably send my own content to group boards a few times a week.
- Repinning older posts. Especially if your blog is older, this can be a game changer. If you started your blog before you started using Pinterest, then spend a little time each week going back to older posts and pinning them. This is a great way to revive older posts — remember that my viral, game changing post was written in December 2013 and didn’t go crazy until September 2014. Be patient!
- Staying active and making sure to grow your network on Pinterest. Perhaps the most important thing is continuing to grow your reach on Pinterest. I do this by finding interesting people who pin things I like and following them – most will follow back. Remember, the more people who see your pins, the more chances you have to experience a viral pin. My viral pin (see the post here) has been pinned over 18,000 times, which is incredible – it all started because I tried to get my pins seen by as many as possible.
Do you use Pinterest? Has it helped you grow your blog? Any great strategies??
