Blogger Tips Tuesday: How I Post 5 Days a Week

February 25, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC15 Comments

Welcome to Blogger Tips Tuesday! Blogger Tips Tuesday is an occasional series where I share about things I’ve learned or questions I have about blogging. Lately, I’ve been getting quite a few questions about how I’m able to post 5 days a week, so I thought I’d share a bit about that.

bt tuesday

I’ve talked about this in more detail here, but for me having an editorial calendar is key in being able to post consistently. I can see easily what I’ve been posting recently and I can put future posts on the schedule. Something about seeing blog post titles sparks my brain! If I didn’t plan my posts out in advance, there’s no way I could get five up every week. Planning is key!

The other thing that has really helped me is having certain days dedicated to different topics. Hopefully you already know about the DC Trifecta’s Friday Five (heads up: this week link up with a “five ______ about me” post!). I also do occasional themed days like Wedding Wednesday and today’s Blogger Tips Tuesday. I don’t like to be beholden to themed days (with the exception of the Friday Five, which I love!), but it’s fun to link up with others doing the same thing and a good way to help decide what to post on a certain day.

Finally, I write down ideas all the time. I write them as blog titles in my editorial calendar. I write down ideas on my phone and email them to myself. When you see something interesting that you might want to write about, make a note of it. Oh, and take pictures of your life! I love sharing pictures on the blog, but sometimes I have to remind myself to take pics!

What are your tips for keeping up a blog?

I get ideas ALL the time so I keep a running list on my “notes” app on my iphone. I have a different note for each category I blog about- it’s been so helpful!

I usually have a whole string of posts started. I don’t know that I would use it much… I might look a bit more into it though. =)

I have a section on my phone just for blogging ideas. I get ideas in the most random places!

I have so many random pictures on my phone that I take “just in case.” Anyone looking through my phone probably thinks I’m a complete weirdo haha 🙂

I don’t know that I’ll ever be a 5 day a week poster, but this weekend I got posts pre-written for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All have to do is get my Tweets pre-set at night or in the morning and I’m good for the week. This is going to be my new thing.

I’m also not a themed day person. I’ve tried a few of them and they don’t seem to stick, so I’ll keep trying until something sticks, or won’t 🙂

I started using Google Calendar a couple of weeks ago to help keep track of ideas, and the use of it has made my transition from a 1-2 posts a week blogger to a 5 day a week blogger pretty easy. I love how in Google Calendar I can easily move posts around with one click and move of the mouse.
