About a month ago, I shared that I was going cable-free. I thought I’d give y’all a little update on how it’s going. Basically, it’s awesome! I’m saving a ton of money, watching WAYYYY less TV (some of that can be attributed to how busy I am) and still watching just about everything I’m interested in.
Honestly, it hasn’t been a hard switch at all. I use my Roku every single day (well, every day that I watch TV) and it’s great. If you are in the market for one, check out the model I purchased: Roku 1 Streaming Player . I don’t miss any of the features in the newer Rokus and it was a bit cheaper. I also realized that in my original post I forgot to mention another great source of content: Amazon Prime! In addition to free shipping on tons of items, Amazon Instant Video has quite a library of video content (much of which is free for Amazon Prime members). I actually watched all of Friday Night Lights on Amazon Prime. If you have Amazon Prime you can also get free movies as well. Honestly, even without the video benefits, I am an Amazon Prime household and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Now when I first went cable free, K (who is moving in post wedding) was very concerned with how he would be able to watch all his basketball games. We did some checking around and NBA offers this NBA season pass deal where we can pay for access (but I’m looking into other options because apparently the service from the NBA is terrible). My point is that, there are some options with sports. As for my college football addiction, I’m lucky that my beloved Crimson Tide primarily play on CBS. Whew! 🙂
It’s also National Running Day! Yay! What’s the best way to celebrate? Do what I did this morning and go for a run! I love fun little holidays like this one that celebrates my favorite sport. One more way to celebrate (after you go for your run of course) is to take advantage of a great deal for Women’s Running magazine. Click here for a special offer (only available today!) — $1 an issue for a subscription. I’m a bit of a magazine freak and so this is my kinda deal!
Have I convinced you to think about going cable free? Did you run today?
