Right after I finished the Shamrock Half Marathon (recap here), I realized that the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler was in two weeks. I decided that I would continue my training recaps as I look towards Cherry Blossom. My rough plan is to run easy – keep it light in training and then race Cherry Blossom in an effort to snag a new ten mile PR (I set a ten mile PR while running Shamrock, but that doesn’t count!).
Monday: Holy sore quads. I went to a Pure Barre class to work that out. It hurt so good. π
Tuesday: 4 easy miles, 3 of those with Caitlin. It felt nice to run – my legs were still a bit tight but it was a really solid run.
Wednesday: Rest day.
Thursday: I was in New York for work and ran 3 miles in the morning before starting my work day. I hadn’t been in New York for awhile, so it was nice to run through a city I always enjoy.
Friday: Pure Barre run club! I ran to the studio and then we all had a great run. A bit shy of 4 miles for the day.
Saturday: A fun ten mile fun run around town to see the Cherry Blossoms with my girls. We had a blast dodging tourists and viewing blossoms. I mean, there were definite moments of “AHHHHH way too many tourists” because, I’m going to be honest, I love people but sometimes I hate people. No, but seriously, it was one of those days that I was just so grateful to live here in DC. I love this city and am reminded of that on days like this one.
Sunday: Easter Sunday = rest day.
Total mileage for the week: 20.6
Total mileage for the year: 396.23 miles
What does your week look like after you race?
I had to take it easier than I wanted to this week due to some serious quad and hamstring issues, but I did get it one solid one and some great strength training classes. I’ve got the Hot Chocolate 15K coming up on Saturday but I’m not looking to “race” it, it will be more of a training run for me for an upcoming half marathon in May!
Oh no – I hope you are able to resolve your quad/hamstring troubles!!!
what a great week for running! i love the cherry blossoms, they are so pretty – sadly, when i ran the CUCB 10 miler a few years back, it was too early to see the cherry blossoms, lol. as far as recovery goes, i tend to take a few full rest days after any race.
It was a nice week full of fun runs!!
It was SO great running into you on Sunday and I can’t wait to start running with you and your AWESOME girls this summer! You’re absolutely right! There is NOTHING like Cherry Blossoms to get me to realize how much I love our city!
Yes!!! It was so nice to see you & you will love our group – such a fun, nice group of gals. Such fun – I’ll keep you posted on the kickoff of our season!
The cherry blossoms are beautiful!!! Your run must have been incredible.
It was truly lovely!!
I used to think that way when I lived in Va beach, especially in the summer. Too many tourists! I guess ten miles can be fun when running w girlfriends. Great Job!
It was a lovely run, despite the crowds!
Looking forward to the cherry blossom 10 miler and your hansons review!
Looking forward to the cherry blossom 10 miler and your hansons review!!
You had a packed week and the cherry blossoms look amazing!
Recovering is different every time for me. But they all require ICE. Lots of Ice in the tub!
Nicely done!! And I can only imagine what it’s like to have to dodge tourists on a run – not fun!!! But, at least you had some of the most beautiful scenery in the country right now – so awesome!!

Yes it is truly lovely. I’m glad I got to see the blossoms because it’s raining today so that’s pretty much that. :/
I’m totally with you on the tourists! I’m so excited for the race and I know you’ll get your PR on Sunday! Will there still be a good amount of Cherry Blossoms by race day?

Probably not. It’s raining and peak has already happened :/ fingers crossed!
With the weather at Shamrock, I’m fairly confident you could set a PR at Cherry Blossom. Interesting enough, we just got our blossoms to bloom this week.
Oooh, enjoy them!!
The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous, right? So glad y’all could get out and enjoy it, in spite of all the tourist madness – ha! I’m so excited that you’re doing this race, Courtney; after your big half marathon, you should have a great day!!
It should be really fun either way! π And oh man, the tourists π
I’m sure you are in great shape from Shamrock. The cherry blossoms are so gorgeous – I hope some are left on Sunday!
Thank you – we shall see on Sunday. See you at the dinner Saturday?
Hi Courtney!
First thing- Love your blog! But, wanted to let you know since you just did a blog post about this; “why I stopped reading your blog,” it’s really hard to read your blog on an iPhone or iPad. I keep getting pop ups for your Ebook or a blogging101 seminar- which I wouldn’t mind, but they don’t give you the option to X out of them- it keeps freezing my screen and I have to back out of the blog and back in a couple of times to get rid often pop ups just to read a post ;/
Thanks for letting me know – I am able to x out on my iPhone but I’ve turned them off for right now until I can dig around and figure it out! Thanks again π
Living in a tourist area I have to say I HATE people. But, since I also work with them as a hiking guide, I LOVE people, haha! My post race week (next week) is going to be insane! I run a marathon Sunday, have Monday as a recovery day, and then I head out for a solid week of hiking with a client on the Appalachian Trail. To say my recovery week is going to be active is an understatement π Good luck at your Cherry Blossom 10 miler – get that PR!
Oh good luck at your face – I’m sure you’ll crush it and yes that is some active recovery!!!
