Chicago Marathon training week eight is in the books! This week was…interesting. I switched my schedule because of work travel and then ended up getting stuck in Chicago an extra day, which made things difficult. Each week during this training cycle, I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. On to the recap!
Monday: I switched my schedule and did my spadework on Monday. 6x800s and my goal was 4:20 or faster. The weather was pretty terrible. Very warm and very humid. I was pleased to hit each 800 faster than goal pace but it was a rough workout. Glad that one is done!
Tuesday: Six easy miles – most with Caitlin. We hit up a number of sprinklers and even took a stop at a water feature over at Yards Park. Anything to try and survive the heat!
Wednesday: Moved my tempo run to Wednesday to get it in before my work trip. My legs were wiped, but I had solid tempo splits. Overall run pace again was 9:37, pretty consistent with last week. I’m not sure how this upcoming week’s eight mile tempo will go – that’s a big jump!
Thursday: Glorious rest day!
Friday: Five and a half easy miles in Chicago – the weather was MUCH better than it was in DC, which was great.
Saturday: Ten awesome miles along the lake front in Chicago 72 degrees at the start and low humidity meant a great run. Even though I was solo, it was really solid – I felt great and had an average pace of 9:47 – just a few seconds slower than MGP. AND as a bonus I ran into Suzy from Suzlyfe. It was so nice to meet her and her hubby as we were running. Made my morning!
Sunday: Sunday was rough. I got stuck in Chicago Saturday night. I was at the airport for about 8 hours and then finally had a friend rescue me. I got very little sleep and didn’t get home until almost 12pm. I decided that to get out and run during the hottest part of the day wasn’t a smart decision so I skipped my run. I needed rest SO much more than I needed five more miles!
Total mileage for the week: 34.6 miles
Total mileage for the year: 743.75 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 203.26 miles
This week I start double digit weekday runs – my tempo runs are eight miles, so that total run will be ten miles. I’m a bit nervous about fitting it in before work, so cross your fingers for me!
