Eek! Race day is TWO weeks away, y’all. I can’t believe it. It’s time to recap week 16 of Chicago Marathon training. As I get closer to the race, I get more and more tired, lol. I am definitely ready for race day and ready for a rest. But I’m feeling strong and fit, which is a very good thing! Each week during this training cycle, as I train for the Chicago Marathon, I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. A few weeks ago, I started a link up for Chicago Marathon Training Recaps – I know there are more of us out there so please do link up! I love reading about folks training for the same race as I am, so please do link up!
Monday: 5 easy miles to start the week.
Tuesday: 4×1.5 mile repeats – nailed this one. The weather had improved a bit and my legs felt okay – not good but okay. I was happy that I was able to run this one faster that I had a few weeks away.
Wednesday: OH YES, REST DAY. The best.
Thursday: Second 1o mile tempo run. This one wasn’t great – but I got it done.
Friday: Six miles with my friend Dawn.
Saturday: Went to a Oiselle team meet up in Columbia, MD and ran around 8 miles. I forgot to un pause my watch at one point so unsure of exact mileage but I’m guessing 8?
Sunday: 5 easy miles – ran these faster than I wanted, but I felt good and had a lot on my mind.
Total mileage for the week: 44.3 miles
Total mileage for the year: 1119.43 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 587.94 miles
I am running the Chicago marathon to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities – if you would like to support this amazing organization, click here. Thank you!
Just two more hard workouts Tuesday and Thursday and then the taper begins. I’m really excited to be getting so close and pretty much all I can think about is the Chicago Marathon!
How was your training?

Way to get your runs done! I can’t believe it’s only two weeks away!! I’m really hoping for good weather!
Me too – I think it’ll be great!
Great job last week Courtney! It seems like the really hard part of training is behind you. You have killed it this cycle, I hope it all comes together on race day for you!
Thanks Jess! I hope so as well – either way, I’ll know I’ve done my best!
Nice work in the last two weeks. I can’t believe how fast Chicago is sneaking up. I know you’ll do great though.
Thanks Hollie – I’m really excited!
I wish I was better at documenting my runs on IG. Maybe next training cycle!
Where is this Chicago link up you talk about? I will tell my sister since she will be running it too. She hasn’t really been documenting her training much either though, except today’s post she has. Perhaps you two might meet up in chicago!
The link up is on the post 🙂
I fixed the start date so it’s working now!
Whoa, you are getting so close, and I am so super proud of you — you have truly rocked this training, even with the nasty summer weather! I’m sad I didn’t get to do more of your runs with you, but I’m so excited to follow along, cheer you on, and celebrate your upcoming accomplishment with you!! xoxo

This has been a very strong training cycle for me, for sure!
I cannot believe it is 2 weeks away! I am also feeling really tired and looking forward to the taper. Here’s to the last two hard workouts!
Yes! Now just the LAST hard workout!!!!! Woohoo!
Thursday’s run is definitely good mental training in the bank to pull from on race day! You are definitely ready for race day, and you should be so proud of your training cycle. You have inspired me all along the way! Hang in there–just a few more days until you get to taper!
Oh man just one more tempo run! I am so ready for taper, lol!!!
I bet you’ve never been so glad to have a taper within sight!!! I say this every week but I can’t wait to see how you do. You’ve re-sparked my interest in the Hanson method.
Girl – SO EXCITED for taper!!!!!!!
So close to the taper, nicely done! I think that’s when you know you’re ready for it – when you feel fit and strong, but ready for a break. Good luck with your last few hard workouts!
That is exactly how I feel 🙂
Did a 20 miler racemail Sunday, whew. It wasn’t that bad. Feeling a lot better about Chicago now
