Well, week two of Chicago marathon training is in the books! I’ve truly enjoyed the last couple months of easy running, racing for fun and generally just being very relaxed about my running. It left me feeling recharged and excited for this marathon training cycle. Each week during this training cycle, I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. On to the recap!
Monday: rest day. I flew to Chicago for the week for work. I knew it was going to be a crazy busy week – and it was so I took the rest and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Tuesday: 2 easy miles. Also – my wedding anniversary! Celebrated in Chicago with my colleagues. 🙂
Wednesday: rest day
Thursday: 3.15 easy miles
Friday: 3 easy miles
Saturday: Four easy with my group! I missed running with my girls – we had a good run on a tough, VERY hilly trail. The humidity was low and this was my first 6am Saturday run of the season. The sunrise was absolutely gorgeous.
Sunday: 3.5 easy miles.
Total mileage for the week: 15.76 miles
Total mileage for the year: 568.87 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 28.38 miles
Week two was really solid – even though I was traveling and getting very little sleep. I’m glad that this crazy week of travel happened early because it would’ve been hard to manage later on in training.
note: I am running the Chicago Marathon in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. If you’d like to help support this amazing organization, you can do so here. Thank you!
How was your week of training?
It’s nice that you got to spend some time here–the familiarity with the city will help you during the marathon! Great start to your training cycle!

It isn’t but the weather was gorgeous in Chicago and it was really so lovely running there!
Looks like a great week of training! I’ve never run on the Custis before–I think I’m a little intimidated by it! The weather this weekend was gorgeous and I enjoyed 4 miles around the Hill. Happy belated anniversary 🙂

Great week! Training while traveling always gets a big kudos from me. Congrats on your wedding anniversary too!

Happy anniversary! Great job with your training. I look forward to seeing how you progress over the next few months!

Thanks Janelle! It was a busy week 🙂
Good job keeping running while out of town for work! I would love to run the Chicago Marathon one day, definitely on my bucket list!
I am SO excited to run it 🙂 It’s been on my list for awhile.
Congrats on a great week and some awesome yearly mileage.
Thanks Abby – I’m definitely going to hit 1000 miles this year, which might be a first for me!
At least all your trips to Chicago will get you used to the Chicago weather – which can be a lot like the DC weather!
Yes – it has been nice. I might have one more trip before the marathon, which would be great!
Another week in the books! Kudos to keeping to training while you’re on the road btw – that’s always the hardest for me. See you on Saturday!
Thanks! See ya Saturday – 5 miles, yay! 🙂
Happy anniversary! Congrats on another week of training in the books!
Thank you for the congrats! 🙂
Jealous you got to run in Chicago to get a feel for the city. I will be going in blind when I race the marathon there this fall. Looks like you had a fun and relaxing week of training too.
I’m hoping to get out to Chicago for one more run before the marathon – we’ll see if I can swing it. You will love Chicago running!
Where exactly did you run? Do you remember? I’m going on leave after this deployment and stopping at home at the end of the month. I never ran in Chicago, and the places where my family live aren’t the safest. I just figured I’d commute from my Mom’s house to go downtown to the lakefront, but I think a trail would be fun!
I always stay downtown and just run along the river and then the lake – the path by the lake runs for 18 miles, so lots of options to jump in!
