Chicago Marathon Training Recap, Week 2

June 20, 2016 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC26 Comments

Well, week two of Chicago marathon training is in the books! I’ve truly enjoyed the last couple months of easy running, racing for fun and generally just being very relaxed about my running. It left me feeling recharged and excited for this marathon training cycle. Each week during this training cycle, I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. On to the recap!

Chicago Marathon Training Recap

Monday: rest day. I flew to Chicago for the week for work. I knew it was going to be a crazy busy week – and it was so I took the rest and enjoyed the heck out of it.

Tuesday: 2 easy miles. Also – my wedding anniversary! Celebrated in Chicago with my colleagues. 🙂

Wednesday: rest day

Thursday: 3.15 easy miles

Friday: 3 easy miles

Saturday: Four easy with my group! I missed running with my girls – we had a good run on a tough, VERY hilly trail. The humidity was low and this was my first 6am Saturday run of the season. The sunrise was absolutely gorgeous.

 arlington gals

Sunday: 3.5 easy miles.

Total mileage for the week: 15.76 miles

Total mileage for the year: 568.87 miles

Total mileage for this training cycle: 28.38 miles

Week two was really solid – even though I was traveling and getting very little sleep. I’m glad that this crazy week of travel happened early because it would’ve been hard to manage later on in training.

note: I am running the Chicago Marathon in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. If you’d like to help support this amazing organization, you can do so here. Thank you!

How was your week of training?

It’s nice that you got to spend some time here–the familiarity with the city will help you during the marathon! Great start to your training cycle!

Looks like a great week of training! I’ve never run on the Custis before–I think I’m a little intimidated by it! The weather this weekend was gorgeous and I enjoyed 4 miles around the Hill. Happy belated anniversary 🙂

At least all your trips to Chicago will get you used to the Chicago weather – which can be a lot like the DC weather!

Jealous you got to run in Chicago to get a feel for the city. I will be going in blind when I race the marathon there this fall. Looks like you had a fun and relaxing week of training too.

Where exactly did you run? Do you remember? I’m going on leave after this deployment and stopping at home at the end of the month. I never ran in Chicago, and the places where my family live aren’t the safest. I just figured I’d commute from my Mom’s house to go downtown to the lakefront, but I think a trail would be fun!

I always stay downtown and just run along the river and then the lake – the path by the lake runs for 18 miles, so lots of options to jump in!
