Chicago Marathon training week three is in the books! Each week during this training cycle, I will share how my training went and what the week looked like. I do this because: 1) I love reading about how other folks train and 2) it’s great for me to have a record of what I did each week. Also, honestly, it helps keep me accountable when I know I’ll be writing about it. I also post almost all of my runs on Instagram as well. On to the recap!
Monday: rest day. It was much needed after the previous week’s busyness and travel.
Tuesday: 4.1 miles with Catilin. I joined her on the track for her speed workout, but I just ran easy. I also went to Pure Barre after work. It was my first class in a couple weeks due to work and it was amazing!
Wednesday: rest day
Thursday: 4 easy miles in the rain. So refreshing! I don’t mind rainy runs in the summer – as long as it’s not storming.
Friday: 4.7 easy miles with my Pure Barre run club gals. I misjudged the mileage and ran almost 5 when I was supposed to run 4 – no big deal – I just ran a bit less on Sunday to even it out. I went to Pure Barre after work.
Saturday: 5 with my Saturday run group.
Sunday: 3.1 easy run past one of my favorite DC buildings – the Library of Congress. The humidity calmed down a bit on Sunday, which was very much appreciated on my run.
Total mileage for the week: 21.02 miles
Total mileage for the year: 589.89 miles
Total mileage for this training cycle: 49.4 miles
Week three was a solid week of build up. I’m getting used to running almost every day again and feel like I’ll be ready for the 6 days of running when it starts very soon! I’m not worrying about pace on these runs because I know once I start speed work, I’ll be very pace-focused. I ended the weekend on a delightful note.
How was your weekend?
note: I am running the Chicago Marathon in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. If you’d like to help support this amazing organization, you can do so here. Thank you!
Sasha’s perky little ears are too cute! Solid week of running for you–I loved joining the PB run club and can’t wait for our class Wednesday morning!

I know – she’s the best! Wednesday is going to be so fun 🙂
I’m the same with the rain. I actually like when it rains when it’s hot, but I’m always scared to go out when there are major storms. Nice that you’re enjoying running easy and not being focused on pace. That will come soon enough!
Yes! The pace running will be coming before I know it. I’m at the point where I often HOPE it rains while running!
I love to run in the rain occasionally. It’s so liberating. I feel like I’m in the movies.
Yes – as long as my eyes are protected and it’s not storming, I’m totally okay with it in the summer!
Yes, I will happily take summer rain to cool it of a bit.
100% YES, right?
Your training sounds perfect. I just ran my first marathon and the biggest mistake I think I made in my training was only running 3 times a week. Oops! Working your way up to 6x/ week is going to prepare you so well! Keep up the great work and I’m excited to read about your training each week 🙂

Thanks Mar!
Nice week of training! I miss Midwestern thunderstorms — but they are scary to get caught in while out on a run. Glad your rainy run was refreshing and not stormy!
It was so refreshing and lovely!
We’re expecting our monsoon rain and it’s gets crazy here, lol!!
I start Hanson’s next week and join you on this madness!!! 😀
Yay! You are rocking your running, lady!
Courtney, do you have a plan that you are following for marathon training? I’ve been coached for so long, but starting in the fall I’ll be going back to following more of an online training plan.
I’m glad to hear your training for Chicago is going well so far!
