While the weather has been a bit up and down here in DC (highs in the 70s this week, what?!), fall is here and winter is coming. For someone who loves hot drinks, this is the best news. There are lots of things that I don’t love about cold weather, but the beverages are NOT one of them! Per usual, Iβm linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five and sharing five favorite cold weather drinks. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you donβt play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend and good luck to all those who are racing (including Mar in Philadelphia!).
- Hot Tea. I love hot tea year around but there’s something extra special about curling up with a cup of tea during the colder seasons. Cup of tea + book + blanket = bliss. Am I right?!
- Hot Cider. Oh yes, please. I LOVE hot cider. I love it more when it’s spiked, but I’ll take it any way I can. π
- Hot Toddy. Probably one of my favorite winter drinks. Actually, I’ll make one of these year round if I get sick. Love it.
- Red Wine. Okay, it’s not a “hot” drink but I personally love a big bold red on a cold night with a meal that really sticks to your ribs.
- Hot Chocolate. I’m typically hit or miss with hot chocolate – I like it to be really think and not too watery. Some places do it right and others make me wish I was drinking tea, instead. But a hot chocolate done right is pure bliss!
What cold weather drinks do you love?
I think red wine is great all yr long. I even drink it in the summer.

Always love it when your topic sets me up for a beer post LOL. I’ll admit that spiked hot cider or hot chocolate is pretty darn good too. ;o)

I’m with you on the tea, even though I’d rather cuddle up with a coffee instead. I’ve been drinking peppermint tea when I get cold at work and it’s awesome!

Mmmm – hot toddy and red wine. Now you are talking. I am not much for warm drinks except coffee (and tea in winter).
I went off topic today with “5 Free Ways to Give Back This Season.”

I’m stocking up on hot chocolate this weekend. I’m almost out, and that just won’t do. I love double chocolate, chocolate with peppermint, and even chocolate with hazelnut. I’m not picky π

you three all have so many fave similar drinks! i guess there are only so many cold-weather staples to choose from. π i’m with you guys on red wine — i can’t get enough of it lately and have a glass (or two) most nights. π
It’s heart healthy π
I do love a good hot spiked cider, alas I’ve only made it for a party once. Put me down for peppermint mocha and yes all kinds of tea!

I like to warm the cider in my crockpot and then add the booze at will π
I’ve never tried hot toddy! I’ve got to rectify that at some point. I’m with you on the hot chocolate. I usually like it only certain ways so rarely order it out.

Oh definitely get a hot toddy this winter π
Except for the occasional hot chocolate that I mentioned in my list, I’m not a fan of hot drinks. I’ve never been able to develop a taste for coffee or tea – guess I take after my dad on that, too.
Thanks for the linkup!

My latest tea obsession is Bigelow Vanilla Chai. Add a little milk and it’s perfect. Simply Cocoa from Swiss Miss is one of the better instants I’ve had recently. Plus, there are only a few ingredients so it feels somewhat “healthy” ha

Don’t you just hate it when hot chocolate is too watery, I mean come on put two packets of cocoa whatever it takes just don’t make it watery….. Great list!

Like you, I love hot chocolate- but it has to be done right. I like it very rich and chocolately- more chocolately than creamy. So many coffee shops and restaurants water it down!
Oh, and spiked with Bailey’s. Now that makes a good hot chocolate! But if not the alcohol, sometimes adding a little coffee creamer in there will do the trick.

I like the old fashioned hot cocoa made in a boiler on top of the stove with whole milk. Yummy. If you like cider, try making Wassail sometime. It makes the house smell wonderful!
