If you follow me on social media, you already know that I had a great race this weekend. Somehow, everything just went right. In short, the Fit Foodie 5k was awesome! I think I was riding high on the fun of the weekend, and just carried it into the race. Somehow I always forget how hard 5ks are. I always just focus on how short the distance is and forget that when you are running fast, it hurts. But, the great thing is that no matter what, it’s done in less than half an hour!
Of course, I didn’t really preview the Fit Foodie course. You can see it below — there are a few double backs and switches, which was fun because I got to see all my runner buddies numerous times and I love cheering on my girls during a race. (Quick aside — can we talk about how Lauren WON her age group and so did Debbie?? I love having fast friends!).
The weather was perfect — mid 60s with the hint of rain (which did materialize after we finished running, but it was like a shower!) and for the beginning of summer, a delightful treat. The race was somewhat chaotic at the start line, but then someone realized that starting the group in waves would be helpful — and it really was! I positioned myself at the start of the third wave with Cynthia, Amy and Erika. I’m never at the front of corrals and it was kinda fun!
We ran through a garage that made my Garmin lose its signal so I wasn’t entirely sure of my time. I just knew that I was trying to keep Cynthia in my sights! This course was surprisingly hilly, which was a surprise because of course I didn’t preview it (oops!). It hurt. But by mile two, I thought I could maybe get a PR and so I kept pushing. As it turns out, I was right!
I ran an average 8:18 pace, for a finish time of 25:46. Wow. I wasn’t expecting that. I think that running with my girls really works for me. Can I do this every weekend? And then, after the race, this happened…
Yeah, it was amazing. Thanks so much to Fit Foodie for having me as an ambassador — this race weekend is a MUST DO!
Have you EVER seen a potato that large? What was the last fun race you ran?
Way to go on the PR, speedy! Looks like a fun event and hope they are back next year π

Girl! I thought you said your 800 pace is 8:10! You ran a 5K at an 8:08?! “No matter what it’s over in less than half an hour” – yeah if you’re you! I am still gunning for that sub-30 (only 13 seconds away)! You are so gonna smoke me tonight. But I’m alright with that – you’re gonna push me to be stronger, I just hope I don’t slow you down! Congrats on an amazing time! See you toniiiight

oops – it should’ve been 8:18 pace. NOT 8:08. and yes, i hear you on the elusive sub 30 5k. i just hit it last fall. and there’s no smoking on the track because we’re just running in circles. tonight my pace for the 800 is 4:10 – ouch! see you then, it’s gonna be awesome (i keep telling myself that!).
My last fun race was THE FIT FOODIE 5K!!! I’m still riding high from the fun weekend and getting to know all of the other ambassadors. So, so fun!
Congrats on your PR! It was a good day for most of us, and I think the drizzly cooler morning helped a lot.
