Five Favorite Summer Movies

June 16, 2016 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC26 Comments

Happy Friday! This week for our Friday Five link up, we’re sharing favorites and I thought I’d share my five favorite summer movies. My criteria for this was pretty loose. They are either movies that take place during the summer or movies that I associate with summer (i.e. summer blockbusters). Don’t forget to check out Cynthia and Mar and some of the other folks who link up with us – and please don’t forget to link to your hosts if you are participating!

Five Favorite Summer Movies

  1. Independence Day. Hello. This obviously had to be number one on my list. It’s ALLLLLL about the summer and it just spells summer to me. Undecided about how I feel about the new one coming out. I will probably watch it at some point but nothing will touch the original in my opinion.
  2. Dirty Dancing. LOVE this movie so much and it feels like summer to me. I mean, come on. It’s pretty dang perfect.
  3. Jurassic Park. I feel like this one came out during the summer. Not certain but that’s what I remember. And it has held up to the test of time SO well. It still scares the mess out of me! Scary movies and summer are like peas and carrots, am I right?
  4. Bridesmaids. This movie makes me crack up like nothing other. It is so dang hilarious and so awesome and I enjoy watching it ALL.THE.TIME. Seriously, I might go watch this now. Who doesn’t love cracking up over hilarious potty humor?
  5. Psycho. Okay – not a summer movie. But this was one of the first outdoor movies I enjoyed on the National Mall after moving to DC and it just makes me recall sitting on a blanket with wine and snacks and bugs and friends and it just being perfect. And really, that’s what summer is all about in my mind.

I’m like 99% sure Jurassic Park came out during June. I only remember this bc my boyfriend at the time took me and I vividly remember a horrible electrical storm at the theatre when we were leaving to get to his car. He ended up running in the rain and pulling up to get me. Jurassic Park was also one of my all time favorite movies.

Bridesmaids is one of my favorites. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen it I laugh like it’d the first time. I really like the Hangover too!

Yikes…I have not seen Independence Day (my bad), but I have seen all the others. Not sure if I have a favorite, but I certainly associate Dirty Dancing with summer (“I carried a watermelon” HA!)

I’m with you on 1&2, never saw 4&5, 3 not so much — I just find it needlessly violent.

On the 4th, it’s hard to pick which movie to watch — Independence Day, The Patriot, or 1776 (a really old one but a personal favorite).

Not my favorite move but maybe my favorite movie memory – seeing Talageda Nights with our kids while we were on vacation at the beach!

I think living in Chicago, I have to say Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because they screen it here every summer. We have seen a lot of good action movies and some good oldies at movies in the park here. Roman Holiday was a fave when we first moved here!

Would you believe I’ve only seen Jurassic Park from that list? I also saw Jurassic World last summer, but I like the original betters than any of the others.

Some great choices on there. I remember seeing Jurassic Park as a kid and I remember it scaring me but also loving it. Such a good moving. I definitely need to go back and watch that, maybe in conjunction with finally watching Jurassic World

When I think of summer movies, for some reason I think of those coming of age type of movies. 🙂 I think of The Sandlot, Georgia Rule (I know Lindsay Lohan is horrible but for some reason I like this movie!), What’s Eating Gilbert Grape…. things like that!

I could watch Dirty Dancing every single day. Its just one of those movies that I will never get tired of watching, especially the last dance scene.

I love Independence Day, but I’m really on the fence about the new movie coming out. My boys want to see it so I’m sure I’ll go at some point. This summer I’m looking forward to seeing Jason Bourne – love Matt Damon 🙂
