If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m currently in Boston for a conference. You also probably know that it’s marathon week! The Boston Marathon is Monday and the city is buzzing. For this week’s Friday Five, I’m sharing my five favorite things about being in Boston during marathon week. Don’t forget to check out Cynthia and Mar and some of the other folks who link up with us – and please don’t forget to link to your hosts if you are participating!
- The first morning of my conference we heard from Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a professional dancer who lost her left leg in the marathon bombings. Her story brought us all to tears and really helped to emphasize why we do what we do and what is important.
- The city is electric. My hotel is literally right around the corner from the marathon’s finish and the energy here is just incredible. Everyone is so excited and so happy about the marathon – runners are arriving and it’s just so dang exciting.
- All the runners. Speaking of runners – being around runners as they are prepping for a race is such an amazing thing. I’m LOVING it!
- Just being here. I’ve wanted to spectate the marathon for SO long and having the chance to do so is so amazing and really just an honor to be honest.
- Dreaming big. I would like to someday qualify for the marathon. Being able to watch the race that would be my ultimate goal is going to be an incredible experience. I’m looking forward to cheering my head off and getting totally motivated for my marathon training cycle that is coming this summer. I can.not.wait.
I can not wait – have you spectated or run Boston? Will you be out there? Let me know so I can cheer you on!
I got excited just seeing the title of your post. I bet the atmosphere is fantastic! Isn’t it special to see the finish line! Our Boston office is right there too — but I was in our NYC office this week. ;-/

Oh man you have to time a visit here next year!!
That must be so exciting to be there as the city is prepping for the marathon! So much hustle and bustle to see.
Wow that sounds amazing! I have not been in Boston around marathon time and the only thing I can relate it to would be the NYC Marathon. The atmosphere in the air is just indescribable. But that session with Adrianne Haslet-Davis must have been just amazing. Have a great time!!

I went to college in Boston and loved every single second. Enjoy the atmosphere of the marathon weekend, what an amazing experience !

I am leaving from VA today for Boston. It I will be on my third Bisron and 20th marathon. I love The way Boston treats the marathon! I cannot wait to get there!!!!
Sooo is scored to leave I forgot how to spell “Boston”.
It has been so long since I’ve been to boston. I would imagine the city feels like Chicago for Chi Marathon weekend, but x10000!
Being in Boston the week of the race is unlike anything else. I used to always to go to Red Sox games the week of the marathon and would be amazed by the decorations on Boyleston, and the city’s spirit. I wish I could go watch on Monday!
The energy is AMAZING!! So fun! I have never watched/cheered at Boston but I know from experience that the crowd is terrific and full of energy! I wish I could be there to cheer on some first time Boston friends! I cheer every year in Chicago and a few times in NYC. It is really amazing from start to finish! Have a great weekend!
OMG – how exciting!! I cannot wait to hear about all of your experiences in Boston. I imagine that it’s just such a positive and fun atmosphere in Boston right now.
Hehe, we both did Boston posts. It’s the one day I miss the city and dangit, I never went to the expo just to visit it. Never saw it. We spectated the first couple years because my town is right at the halfway point, and they run by some of my high school fields. Have fun on Monday!
I can only imagine how exciting it is to be there during marathon weekend! Have a great time. Thanks for hosting the linkup

I’d love to spectate one day–I was actually in London a few years ago and happened to be there when the marathon was going on and was able to watch it by Buckingham Palace, it was so cool!

Love the energy here at marathon time!!!
I’m just a little jealous that you get to spectate! Ok, a lot jealous. I personally think that would be almost as good as running. I mean it! We’ve got so many friends there, right?

Have such a great time! You will be SO pumped to start training after! 🙂
Living in the Boston area, I can share in your excitement! It really is such an exciting time here! So glad you are getting to experience it. I have run Boston twice and I can tell you the spectators are AWESOME! Have fun!
My dorm was on Heartbreak hill when I was a senior at Boston College. At the time, I was a runner but knew nothing about marathons or the magnitude of the Boston Marathon. Patriot’s Day was referred to as “another excuse to drink on a Monday”. I remembering watching in awe, and some of the crazy things (which was tame in the early 90s) runners did/wore while racing stood out in my mind. It was love at first sight and I finally ran my first marathon more than 20 later this past year (MCM). I’ve ran most of the course, although not all at once, and Boston Marathon would be my next marathon of choice if it wasn’t for the qualifying time and enormous fundraising for a charity. I could always wait until I’m 80 (I believe my time will work then)
I love the atmosphere in Boston and around the city during the marathon week. It is always such fun and you are right that it has a wonderful feel with so many excited runners and people in the city who love marathon Monday., I started spectating as a child and always enjoy being in and around the city for this special week. I do hope you get to run the race some day, it is such an amazing race day experience from the bus ride to that left on Boylston Street.
