Happy Friday and Happy October! October is one of my favorite months because I love the chilly weather (ahem, the traditionally chilly weather — it’s almost 90 degrees in DC!), Halloween is always fun and…it’s my birthday month!
For this week’s Five for Friday, I decided to list five things that are currently on my wish list. What’s on yours?
- A Garmin or a Nike+ GPS watch. As I prepare for my marathon next month (OMG! My marathon is next month!), I need a GPS watch because my phone battery will die after a couple hours of using the Nike+ app.
- A hydration backpack. While I know that Marine Corp and NYC have banned them, Richmond has not and I hope will not and I really want to be able to carry most of my water during the marathon. I know there will be water stops, but I want the ability to get water when I want to. Right now I have a belt, but that only carries 20oz and I really want to be carrying around 50-70oz.
- A running jacket. However, I should be specific – I don’t just want a running jacket. I want THE running jacket. The Oiselle Flyer. Look at that thing. Mama want!
- New running shoes! Obviously, running shoes have to be on this list 🙂 I love my Mizunos that I’m currently running in but desperately want to try the new Sayonaras.
- And I guess I’ll include on non-running related item on here! My other wish list item (and this is DEFINITELY not something I expect anyone to purchase but me, myself and I) is a Mac computer. I really need to retire my current Dell and I’m looking to make the jump!
There you have it — my Friday Five wishlist!
Do you have any of the items on my list? Any that you are also jonesing for? Share!
I love my Garmin 10. The interface is pretty smiple but then once I download it to the website there is SO much info there!
For my marathons I used a fuel belt rather than a backpack and trained with it too – loved that thing. I should dig it out and use it sometime…
how much water did yours hold?
I have two, I think – a Fuel Belt and an Amphipod. I know one of them held 4 bottles like this: http://www.amphipod.com/products/hydration/hydration-belts/runlite-hydration-belts/runlite-4. Sometimes I only ran with 2 in the belt if I didn’t need 4 on me.
If you want to try one out I can find them! I got pretty used to moving the full bottles to the front and the empties to the back for ease of hydration.
hmmm – I may take you up on that! 🙂
I’ve never tried a backpack. Just a Fuel Belt that I buy bigger bottles for so I can carry 30oz. Water stops just don’t do it for me. Happy weekend!
I hear you on the water stops! Have a great weekend 🙂
I just bought that bright green Garmin 10 up there 😉 I LOVE it and first time wearing a watch in yeeeears!
Ooohh, really?? The watch is number one on my list for a reason! 🙂
and yeah, what’s up with this 90 degrees in DC thing? geez… hello, Fall.
OMG – it is terrible. This weather is for the birds!
Ah, this list is awesome! I have a Nathan pack and absolutely love it although I’m running MCM, so it’s out for that race.
Also, LOVE the flyer jacket, but I’ve already busted my Oiselle budget for the fall, so I’m going to have to wait on that one!
Also I hear you on the Mac computer. I have a 8-year-old macbook that is barely chugging along so I rarely use it anymore. I got myself a chromebook to get me through the interim, but am eventually hoping to get on of the mac desktops…love them! Wish they didn’t cost so much!
My big wish list thing for fall running would be ALL the oiselle lesley knicker capris for once it actually gets a bit chillier here. I just ordered a second pair of them and love them!!
YES. I love mine. I definitely need to be careful w/my Oiselle budget…but I just want EVERYTHING 🙂
The fact that your 8 year old computer is still chugging along is awesome!
I really really really want a garmin. Sadly it is WAY out of our budget. :/ I also need a hydration belt of some kind.
Hello, fellow Oiselle team member! Thanks for sharing this post. Lots of investment pieces on your wish list!
My best friend got me a Garmin recently (I have amazing friends!) and she was really resourceful about it. She has an REI membership – so between getting 10% back on the purchase + a student rebate offer (check out Garmin’s website), she’s getting $70 back on a $200 watch. Also, REI is having a 20% off sale right now, so if you’re a member and student, you could possible save more than that. (I got the Forerunner 210 in white/green – love it!)
Hydration pack – I’ve tried everything when it comes to hydration – handheld water bottle, fuel belt, and Nathan hydration pack. I’ll agree with Colleen here – Nathan does it best (go for something with a 1.5 or 2L capacity, depending on what you’re training for). I stopped using my fuel belt for a bit when I got the pack, and wow – you don’t realize how much bouncing the belt creates until you wear a pack. Plus, they have woman friendly sizing, which reduces bouncing and makes for a better fit in the arms. The pack is a smooth rider and I can’t recommend it enough!
Finally – I, too, am eyeing the flyer! Been on the bench about that one, but it’s growing on me. I am a bit concerned about getting through the winter, so I hope the nest releases more cold weather friendly products (Already have lux layers, rundelicious top, long sleeve stripeys, lesley tights & knickers… and multiples of some of them. Trying not to buy too many of the same things.). I guess this wish item is a general hope rather about a specific want!
Good luck with the acquisitions. 🙂
Love all your thoughtful comments! Thank you. 🙂 the city sports near my job was having a sale today and I impulse purchased a 70oz camelback made for women. Got it for under $50 so felt good about that!!
I especially liked your garmin feedback — great tips to save!!!
And yes, cold weather oiselle items are at the too of my list, too 🙂
Garmin JUST came out with a new watch. I have the 10 in purple and I love it (except for the fact that it takes the GPS forever to figure out where I am when I first start). Do some research to make sure it’s the one you want.

Good point – the new watches seem AWESOME!!
Umm that jacket is to die for and now i hate that i came here and read your blog because i must have it 😉
Haha, sorry — but isn’t it beautiful? And perfect? Sigh. I WANT!
Also want that jacket. BAD. Told hubby it is ALL I want for Christmas. 🙂
Yeah, I’m obsessed!!!
