Great Mother’s Day Gift Ideas – #StrolbyMothersDay

May 2, 2014 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC4 Comments

It is now officially May, which means that time is officially flying by way too fast! It also means that Mother’s Day is right around the corner — don’t worry if you haven’t chosen a gift yet! I have five great Mother’s Day gift ideas for you that you will love. I recently discovered a fantastic website where you can shop for locally-made, limited production goods from cool shops in Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley. This new site, Strolby, is genius! Strolby enables customers to shop local shops from anywhere, and to discover innovative designers and artisans along the way. The idea is that shoppers will have the same experience using Strolby as if they were walking down a cute street in Brooklyn. I do probably 70% of my shopping online, so I was pretty stoked to see what Strolby had for Mother’s Day gifts and I wasn’t disappointed. The cool thing about Strolby is that you’ll learn exactly where the store you are shopping from is located and a bit about both the store and the owner. I love reading about where the products come from and think these cool tidbits help you feel more connected to your purchase.

Here are my five Mother’s Day gift suggestions:

This homemade scarf would look awesome on any lady with style. It’s light and fun and I love the color.

I like the idea of a perfume oil — this gardenia scent will be light and crisp and just perfect for summer weddings.

Is it wrong that I want this for myself? Because I do. Not only is this soy candle cherry blossom scented but it has a picture of my beloved Capitol building on the label. I am in love with this candle. In fact, I love it so much, I want to share more about the store that makes these. Nomaterra (240 KENT AVENUE #14 in Willamsburg) is an artisan fragrance shop with a reoccuring travel theme. Nomaterra makes both the soy candle I listed above and the Oahu perfume oil. Here’s what Strolby says about Nomaterra: “Guidebooks and a globe adorn a bright white shelf and the scents themselves–named after places like Savannah, Miami and Boston and packaged in voyage-friendly sizes–were inspired by owner and fragrance creator Aggie’s many journeys.” Did I mention this is a woman owned store? Y’all know how much I love supporting women owned businesses. I think  I’m obsessed with this store and I never would’ve found it without Strolby.

This is the perfect bag for shopping at the farmer’s market. I also love the shop name: Owl & Thistle. Owl & Thistle General Store is an urban mercantile specializing in local, green, fair and direct-trade products — right up my alley and maybe right up your mom’s alley as well?

For some, Mother’s Day = jewelry. If that’s you, then check out this beautiful gold cuff. Handcrafted by Erica Bradbury, it’s available in brass or white bronze. This is yet another item I’d like for myself! You can find more Mother’s Day gift ideas here.
