Happy Friday! I’m super excited about this week’s fun topic: five things in my gym bag. I changed mine a bit because I don’t belong to a traditional gym but I head to Pure Barre a couple times a week and take the same bag with me each class. Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend and if you are off on Monday enjoy the holiday!
- Sticky socks. A must for barre classes – K got me a pair that are toe sticky socks and those are actually my favorite, because my toes don’t start to slip when we do the plank.
- Water bottle. Duh. Another must. I love this camelbak because it’s really large (24 oz) and easy to find it my bag. The lid is also not a pain in the butt to operate in the 30 seconds between moves during class. Clutch.
- Snack. I always like to have a snack in my bag for after a workout and also just because, snacks.
- Running shoes. On rare occasions I will run and do a barre class in the same day – not very often, but maybe two or three times in a month. I always just like to have my sneaks just in cases (Love Actually reference, anyone?).
- Towel. This is a newer addition. Some days at barre, I’m kinda sweaty. Some days at barre, I’m not sweating at all (note: NOT a reflection of how hard class is. more of a reflection of how warm the studio is). So to be prepared, I’ve started bringing a towel with me since PB doesn’t have them their for members.
What’s in your gym bag??
The sticky socks are definitely a must! And ashamed to say I have never seen Love Actually :/
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes recently posted…So many races…..need more time (and money)!
wha?!?! we must change that, lady!
OMG!!!! rent that movie ASAP!!
I’m with you (and Sue!) Sticky socks are very necessary. I realized that after the first time I went to barre and did not have sticky socks on. The results were not so good.

yeah, it ain’t pretty w/regular socks!!
I don’t use a gym bag right now, because I work out at home, but when I did, I always had flip flops for after my workout. I love to let my feet breathe a little after an intense sweat session.
Haley @ running with diapers recently posted…Friday Five: Things in my gym bag
yes, in the summer i’m ALLLL about the flip flops 🙂
I haven’t tried a Barre class yet! Sounds fun and now I know I must have sticky socks. 🙂
I learned something new from this post….I did not know about sticky socks! And the Love Actually reference, oh yeah, my favorite movie at the holidays!

i know, love actually is so great! sticky socks help a LOT during barre class 🙂
I’ve always wanted to try toe socks but haven’t gotten around to it. Love your pink running shoes!
Good to know about the toe sticky socks – I keep slipping during planks with my regular sticky socks. Smart to carry multiple bars, I switch out one bag btw yoga/barre/gym and it gets cumbersome.
Jennifer recently posted…Friday Five – Favorite New Zealand Memories
yes the toe socks help with that! i need to buy more 🙂 i have the same issue during planks!
I love that you made this specific to Barre – great tip on the socks!

i love my sticky socks 🙂 and barre classes!
I loved the sticky socks. And sticky toe socks??? I could have totally used those as my planks were always made more difficult by slipping feet.

I got sticky toe socks and gloves to do yoga when on travel (easier than a mat or hotel room towel) but didn’t realize they might come in handy for other things. Still don’t think I’ll try Barre, so much already packed in my schedule. Looks fun though!
This was a fun one to do! Glad you are loving your barre class so much

I haven’t tried barre yet…mostly because it is so far from my house, but I should at least take one class and now I will know about the sticky socks!
I’ve never been to a barre studio so this is really helpful for whenever I go to one! I am excited because I have sticky socks that came with the mile high purebarre dvd that I got for Christmas!

This is making me miss barre class! I’ve only done it a few times but it’s such a great workout! Have a nice weekend!

I just posted what was in my gym bag the other day!! I used that link for this, I hope that’s ok. I will be sure to add that I linked up to the blog post.

sure, no prob!
I haven’t taken a Barre class but I do think I need some of those sticky socks for yoga. Even with my mat, I sometimes slide.

I would love to try a barre class. My coworker recently got into it and raves about it.
Also your pink running shoes are very cute, I want a pair! Haha!
Elizabeth recently posted…Friday Five: What’s In My Gym Bag?
My bag always has a towel and cucumber facial wipes…I hate the salty sweaty feel on my face after a good barre or surfset workout!

You learned English? Just in cases 🙂 I could probably use sticky socks for yoga. I have to be barefoot otherwise I slide across the mat.
lesley recently posted…What’s in My Gym Bag?
YES! thanks for getting the reference 🙂 it’s one of my favorite lines in the movie 🙂
Towel is a good one, Courtney; not only did I leave that off my list, I often forget it when I walk out the door! I sweat everywhere, so I should be allowed anywhere without one – ha! Thanks so much for another great Friday Five; hope you have a wonderful weekend! Is there good weather headed your way for the weekend? We’ll be in the high 50s all weekend – woo hoo!!
Tara @ Running ‘N’ Reading recently posted…What’s In Your Gym Bag?
Good list. A good snack is the thing I most often forget to put in my bag for the gym. Need to get a little better at that.
Oh, so you don’t wear shoes for barre class? I still haven’t been…and still dying to go!
Jennifer @ Running on Lentils recently posted…Five Essentials for a Home Gym
yep – no shoes. at pure barre you have to wear socks but at some other barre studios socks are optional.
Who knew sticky socks were a must? I admit, I have never done Barre. My mother-in-law is such a huge fan. Maybe one of these days I will go with her. Unfortunately, we just don’t have any studios within an hour of us 🙁
Lisa @ Lisa Runs for Cupcakes recently posted…Friday Five: What’s in my gym bag?
oh that’s such a bummer – i bet one will come soon though. pure barre is opening up studios EVERYWHERE!
Even though I do not take barre class, these are pretty much all staples I would have in my bag too, except for the sticky socks.

I’ve started carrying a towel in my gym bag as well! Direct result of all the hot yoga I do! 🙂
Mar @ Mar on the Run recently posted…Friday Five: What’s in My Fitness Closet?!
I really should start carrying a snack!! That’s one thing I forget and I turn out to be HANGRY later. NO good. haha! happy Friday!!!
I’ve never heard of sticky socks! I want to take a barre class!
Sticky toe socks are the best! I also love the Studio Wraps for pilates and barre.
hmmm this is my first time hearing about them. intriguing!
I have never taken a Barre class – sounds like so much fun!
When I am at the gym I have to have lots of water, my kindle, a towel and hat or headband.
Hope you enjoy the long weekend!
When I first read Sticky Socks, my brain computed “Stinky” Socks. I thought, oh me too! Ha. Anyway, STICKY socks is a really good idea.
haha, well my sticky socks ARE sometimes stinky 🙂
Great information since I just bought a groupon for Pure Barre in Rockville 🙂 I’m probably going to start it in March after I finish the aerial yoga groupon.
Chaitali recently posted…Friday Five – things in my travel bag
oh that’s great! can’t wait to hear how you like it 🙂
Another fun link up! I need to try barre!
Yes you definitely should!
One of my goals for 2015 is to take a Pure Barre class! Glad to know about the socks! 🙂
Lindsey recently posted…Friday 5: 2014 in Review
oh you definitely should. keep your eyes peeled because i’m publishing a post breaking down a typical pure barre class in a couple of weeks!!
I always have running shoes in my bag too! I always love to have them just in case.
A recent addition to my gym big is a combination lock. I used to just keep my bag beside me while on the treadmill or elliptical, but its so difficult to move it around from weight machine to weight machine. Its so much easier to just lock everything up in the locker room.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running recently posted…Friday Five – January 16th
Like, Sue, I’ve never seen Love Actually either. Sounds like I should find it on Netflix!
Debbie @ Deb Runs recently posted…It’s Not What You’d Expect
oh yes, definitely! it’s such a great movie. i love it!
Well, I just purchased a gym membership! I miss going to Barre class in Annapolis, but it was over an hour away for me to drive! When I do pack my gym bag, I will include Kind bars and numerous Lululemon headbands!
i read your personal training post – sounds like you made a good purchase w/that membership!
The sweaty comment is funny – I always notice with Barre3 I’m either sweaty or shaky (muscle shaky, the good shakes!) – but not usually both! So I thought it was a reflection of the cardio vs. strength intensity of the class since each one is different. You’ll be so proud – I got an Amazon Local package to Pure Barre and I’m also going to try Class Pass soon!
i AM proud – that’s awesome. i’m sure you’ll love both. i’ve decided to just focus on barre right now (plus running of course) but still think class pass is FANTASTIC!
