In case there was any doubt (and how could there be?!), I LOVE living in Washington, DC. So I was super excited when we decided on “five things I love about my favorite city” for this week’s Friday Five. I don’t know if I would say that DC is my absolute favorite city but I do love it quite a bit. Can’t wait to read all about y’alls favorite city! Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend and Happy New Year!
- Lots of awesome things to look at while running. From sites like the one pictured above to beautiful trails, DC has it all in terms of running terrain. I’m grateful for that and grateful that I can run in this city.
- Free museums for the win. All the Smithsonian museums are free and that is such an amazing resource. Plus we have cool stuff like the Arboretum, the Botanic Gardens and awesome monuments. I usually save that stuff for when I have guests visiting but it’s nice to know it’s there.
- We don’t get a ton of snow, but when we do, stuff shuts down. I still don’t know if I will ever have a more awesome week than Snowpocalypse from 2010. Everything was closed for a week – except restuarants, bars and gyms. Oh and museums were open too – we just didn’t have to work because the metro was buried until 20 inches of snow. My former roommates and I beat Mario Brothers on the Wii that week. It was glorious. Minnesota, Canada, Buffalo, NY – you guys can keep you strong tolerance. I’ll keep my snow days. 🙂
- Tons of awesome places to eat. I’m super lucky that I can walk to in ten minutes or less. In fact, tonight I’m checking out a new, cool bar. Yeah, I felt super nerdy about typing that but I promise I am! Not going to bed at 9:30 like I did last night. But, that was awesome too. No, seriously – I love having tons of options for food. This blog is not called EAT Pray Run DC for nothing, y’all.
- Interesting, smart people. DC is full of young, energetic, smart, and passionate people and I love living in a place where I’m constantly learning and constantly fascinated by those around me.
What’s do you love about your favorite city?

I can very easily see why DC is your favorite city. I would love to live there!
It’s a great place to be 🙂 Come visit!!
Courtney, I can’t wait to visit DC again one of these days (Richmond Marathon?!?); it’s such a great place, especially for a history major like myself. 😉 The museums – augh! I can’t. Happy Friday and I hope you have a great weekend; thanks, as always, for hosting this amazing link up for us.

Yes, please! Come and bring Scooter!!! 🙂 Have an awesome weekend – stay warm!
I love DC when I visited there a few years back. It was so much fun but I went during the summer and it was so humid. I kept going into museum after museum to avoid the humidity 🙂

DC Is a fantastic place to love, especially as a young person. I lived there for a short time in my mid-20s and really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to come back and visit in few months!
One of my favorite things about living in Tacoma is the proximity to recreational activities like skiing and boating. I love living on the saltwater yet having a ski hill only an hour away.
The last time I went to DC was for the Cherry Blossom Run in 2013 and ran with my sis. It was fun! Loved seeing the sites and museums!

I was in DC this past September and we had a blast! We packed so much into 3 days (zoo, multiple museums, a tour, and tons of food) that I can’t wait to go back!! Next time we’ll plan a whole week!

There are things I love about DC and would miss if I left, but I hate the way they handle the snow. I’m not a fan of adding extra days to the school year because no one around here knows how to actually plow. ;o)

I love that all three of you DC girls chose to write about DC as your favorite city! It is a great place to visit and I always enjoy time spent there. We lived in Fairfax for 2 years and one of my fondest memories is visiting DC to see the cherry blossoms one Sunday morning and it snowed. It was absolutely gorgeous, but we froze!

The metro was buried in 20 inches of snow?!! Wow, that is crazy!! Sorry I missed that one. Actually I’m not, that would have meant the kids wouldn’t have had school and would have been locked inside the house with ME for a week. We would have gone crazy 🙂 I do LOVE this city!

The free museums are always great. I do love all the foods you can get, such a diverse mix which is wonderful. I’ve only run 1 race in DC but would love to run more because great stuff to see. I’m doing RnR DC this year, so I’ll get to see some more then.

I’m embarassed to admit that I have never been to DC. It is on my list of places to visit, so I do hope to make it there as I really would love to visit.
These are some of my favorite things about the city too. It seems like there always a buzz about something or other and plenty to do. And so many free options 🙂

The Smithsonian is easily my favorite thing about DC. I always remember how spoiled I am that they’re free because when I try to go to museums in other cities and realize you have to pay to get in I’m always a bit surprised that I can’t just walk in haha.

I agree that the way snow is handled is a bit ridiculous, but I don’t think I’d want to change it I kind of love the random days off during the winter. They make the winter months a bit more bearable to me.
I am with you on just skipping to Spring though! I hate the cold!

I love DC and miss living within a reasonable distance for a day trip. Food and people are what bring me back to the same city time and time again.
I used to live in Richmond, and I miss being so close to DC! We’d go up and visit all the time, and now that a bunch of my friends live there, it seems like such a cool place to be a young adult!
I love that you love DC so much! I just need to take advantage of living so close to such an amazing city. Let’s make 2015 the year I come join you on a run! 🙂

We were in DC last spring. It was snowing the day we arrived and was SO COLD and WINDY while we were there. We could barely stand walking from museum to museum. I was hoping to see the cherry trees. I think we were a little early. We had a great time anyway!

Oh how all of these DC posts are making me crazy! I miss racing in that area. There are so many great sights to take in on the run. Oh, and I really miss the food options + cupcakes. There are no freaking cupcake places around here — sigh. Maybe someday we will be back!

It’s so easy to take for granted all of the beautiful and important sites in DC. Every few years I like to go to all the monuments with the kids so they appreciate it. The shutting down of the city with an inch of snow if annoying though 🙂

Love DC! Enjoyed running the RnR Half there last year and taking in as much as I could. My cousin’s son work in the Capitol building so got a private tour was so cool! Looking forward to revisiting and seeing ALL the things I didn’t get to.
