Happy Friday, y’all! This week is a free Friday and I thought I’d take advantage of that and flip the script a bit. I’ve spent a fair bit of time complaining about this winter and how blah it’s been. Well, like all things, eventually winter will morph into spring and then spring will change into summer and then I’ll be complaining about the heat. Per usual, Iβm linking up with my girls Cynthia andMar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you donβt play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a wonderful weekend!!
I will miss…
- Being able to run at odd times of the day and the temperature not be sweltering. In the summer, I can pretty much only run before the sun comes up. Otherwise the heat just about kills me. I will miss being able to run at 8am or 10am or 12pm once summer hits. So I’ll enjoy it while it lasts!
- Being able to straighten my hair for more than a day. Real talk, y’all. I have thick, natural, African-American hair. In the winter, I can get a blow out and have it last for what feels like FOREVER. Even with running and Pure Barre and such. In the summer? Ha, nope. I rarely even try!
- Being able to go on a short run and then sit around and work without showering. I know, it sounds gross. But don’t act like you haven’t done it too! Sorry, not sorry, y’all. π In the summer, that is simply NOT a possibility!
- The lack of mosquitos. Oh, I will miss this so very much come spring. I hate mosquitos and they love me. It’s not a happy relationship.
- Fun hot beverages. I love a good hot toddy and it’s really only socially acceptable to drink those in the winter. I plan on taking full advantage of this while I can, trust me!
What will you miss about winter?
I will miss the total absence of bugs. Especially the ones that find their way into my mouth and down my wind pipe when I’m out for a summer run.

Courtney! I thought I was the only gross one who sat around during the winter for half the day after my long run without a shower – hahaha!! I’m so glad I’m not alone! And you make an excellent point about being able to run any time of day; mid-day or even late afternoon runs in the winter are really nice, but in just a few short months that will be completely out of the question for me. Thanks for putting things into perspective for us today and thanks for hosting another great link up! Hope you have a great weekend, my dear.

You are not alone. π Tara!!!!!! Good luck this weekend – will be pulling for you!
Before I started reading I wasn’t sure if you were going to be serious or tongue-in-cheek! I will miss the beauty of the snow, but will forget that in two seconds when the leaves start coming out! And yes, I’m the queen of getting distracted and not showering immediately when I get home from my run.
Debbie @ Deb Runs recently posted…Moms RUN This Town, My Local Chapter
Yes, agreed!!! It’s so much easier to put off showering when you don’t stink to the high heavens! π
I hate winter. There isn’t much I will miss. Although I agree w you about the drinks. It’s not like I would cozy up w some hot chocolate or tea and watch a movie In the summer Also the comfort food. But that is probably a good thing not having that all yr.

Yes, yes, and yes… I completely agree with all your reasons to miss winter. Especially the part about running in the middle of the day. Girl,, once the weather heats up, we will be forced to wake up with the chickens again. Boo…. No more sleeping in and still grabbing a run.

I am trying really hard to come one single reason and I can’t. I need the spring. Winter makes me a couch potato. I might miss my coach… haha!

Love this! Yep, I totally have sat around after a long run without showering for embarrassing amounts of time ;0
I will miss the coziness of winter – excuses to snuggle in the afternoon, fires in the fireplace and darkness by 4:30.
Hope you have a great weekend!!

I have to shower immediately in the winter or I get too cold. I’ll sit around gross and do work for hours in the summer LOL. And I’m that crazy girl running in the 100* mid-day heat. But really, I just need spring. It never has to warm up to summer LOL.

Ahhh yes to mosquitos! We don’t get super hot temps here but oh man, our mosquitos are unbelievable. They are legit huge (like as big as my thumb) and they fly really slowly so you can see/hear them coming for a while. People call them the state bird!

I have tried to stay positive about winter but yesterday I just had to complain about iron my blog. I think the only thing I will miss is the occasional day off from work. And thats only happened once this year. I would take sweat and mosquitos over ice and sub-zero wind chills any day!

As a Floridian, I always miss winter! Of course our winters are not the same as your winters, for sure. I couldn’t agree with you more on #1 and #4. I hate having to roll out of bed early on the weekend to get a long run in before it gets too hot. And mosquitoes just love me too! And I don’t return the feeling.
I am with you on the hair thing it is way better without humidity. My skin is super dry though and was very pale until I just spent a week away in the warmth. Yup I am ready for summer!

Amen to this! Winter running gets such a bad rap, but there are so many good things about it. It’s so true that come summer, if I don’t run before the sun comes up, I don’t run at all. And just this week I went on a run during lunch and didn’t shower after and didn’t feel gross since I only sweated a bit and had a cleansing wipe. In the summer, that would never happen! I will miss making and eating soup!

These are all great! It is really nice to be able to run whenever you want, and not plan your days around the heat/sun/humidity! Yay for finding the positive!!

Great topic choice this week! I love all of your five points and agree with all of them, including the being able to sit in your workout clothes, lol. I live in Florida so I am super sad to see winter go. During summer you either have to go out and run before the sun is even up or in the evening during/after sunset. While I don’t mind the early mornings or late evenings, the humidity is still ridiculous and it really only cools down to the 80s π Enjoy the winter while you can!

I love hot beverages in the winter, and just don’t even bother making them in the summer. Hot chocolate just isn’t same when it’s cold chocolate. It’s just chocolate milk really.

I will miss the lack of bugs too, any and all bugs. I am also with you on the sitting around without showering (yes I do it too) and the running at any part of the day. Here in Iowa by 7am it’s muggy and hot out so I also have to get up early to run in the summer. I will miss running in the afternoons or mid mornings as well. Pretty much I agree with all of your post!! In the summer also miss sweaters, jeans, boots & sweatshirts!

Ok, I have to agree with not looking forward to things like mosquitos, but really tired of the snow and ice. I agree about the not showering and I reuse some clothing articles sometimes because everything isn’t drenched with sweat like in the summer!
I forgot about the bugs On summer runs! I swallowed one last year and that was probably the grossest thing to happen to me on a run.

Ok, I have to say I was skeptical at first about what you could POSSIBLY miss about winter, but you make a good case. It is kind of nice being able to run whenever I want and not have to get up at the crack of dawn to squeeze it in before it gets too hot. Even so though, I could really go for some warmth right about now. π

i love reading other perspectives about winter, it’s true once the heat comes so come the limits of running during the mid day times and the mosquitos, which are like drones here, but I won’t miss winter!! It’s been a decent winter this year by comparison to the previous winter, but the temperamental weather, -40 one day, +5 the next needs to stop!!! I think I need to move some where more temperate.
You know, you are SO right, I am going to miss the lack of mosquitoes as well! lol that and the excuse to drink copious amounts of hot cocoa… love the positive spin on winter! π

I’ll admit, I’m a huge fan of summer. Running when its hot and humid doesn’t bother me too much, because at least I’ll know that there won’t be snow and ice on the roads, or snow piles so high blocking the sidewalks that I’m left with no choice but to run on the treadmill. However, the one thing I don’t like about summer is those nasty bugs. Yuk!

For some reason I have been extremely susceptible to the cold this year.. andit’s not even that cold where I am at (Oregon Coast). It stays pretty much the same year round as well, except it will warm up slightly in the summer.
I will definitely miss no bugs (sooo gross when you are sweaty and they get stuck on your face/body) and not getting overheated.
