Friday Five: 2015 Goals

January 1, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC76 Comments

Happy New Year! It’s so weird to write 2015 down on a piece of paper — can you believe it? Well, we made it! And in honor of this new year, today’s Friday Five topic is 2015 goals — I can’t wait to read everyone’s goals! Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Marfor the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend and Happy New Year!

Goals for 2015 - Eat Pray Run DC

  • Learn more Spanish. On our honeymoon, I was inspired to refocus on learning Spanish. I speak it conversationally (kind of) and want to increase my proficiency.
  • Update old blog pictures and old posts. If you read some older posts here, you’ll notice that some of the pictures are old and some are missing. I really want to take the time to go through and fix this.
  • Be proactive about staying healthy – running-wise. This year I had some little things here and there that bothered me and I basically ignored them. Not smart and I know better. This year, I’m going to be proactive about resting when needed and about talking to a doctor if pain doesn’t go away. Pain-free running for 2015!
  • Track my miles. I’ve never really committed to doing this, but this is the year! I’m going to use a combination of tracking devices but mainly I’ll use my Believe journal to track my workouts. I’m pretty excited about this – obviously, I like numbers.
  • Try a tri. Yes, I’m putting a sprint tri on my list. I need a bike in order to make this happen, but it’s still going on the list.

[Tweet “what are your 2015 goals? read mine: “]

What’s on your list of goals for the new year? Also, check out MCM Mama Runs today for 5 more goals of mine. Yes, I had a lot, so she let me share over there πŸ™‚

I LOVE that you want to practice up on your Spanish, Courtney! It’s a constant battle; thankfully, I get to practice with the interpreters at the hospital fairly regularly. Keep us posted on your progress! Hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Day (so jealous that you got to run with so many Flockmates this morning!) and that you have a wonderful weekend, too!

so funny, I was thinking about the track my miles thing too. After seeing so many year end wrap ups I was like, what kind of runner am I? I have NO clue how many miles I’ve run. LOL. I could figure it out with combo of looking at MapyMyRun and Garmin uploads. I’d still miss some though like treadmill miles and free for all runs. Hmm… πŸ˜‰ Great goals lady – see you soon!!

Improving your Spanish speaking abilities is an admirable goal. I wish I spoke proficiently. Whenever I converse with native speakers, I feel like a toddler! I’ve considered buying Rosetta Stone to brush up on my Spanish, but I don’t know how effective that would be. I think it takes a lot of conversational practice. At any rate, good luck! I look forward to hearing more about your process and progress!

I’m committed to tracking my miles this year, too. I also have the Believe journal and think it’s going to improve my record-keeping. I’m also going to try to faithfully log my miles with Daily Mile *and* try to remember to wear my Garmin with every run!

Nice list of goals Courtney. I have been tracking my fitness workouts since I started running. It keeps me on track and I also keep track of how many miles I have run on each pair of running shoes (I rotate between 3 pair). Can’t wait to watch you try a TRI. That will never be on my list because I went over the handlebars on my bike as a kid and could never do the bike part of the Tri. Here’s to an awesome 2015 with no injuries for any of us!

I just made the decision to buy a journal to track my mileage this year. I’ve seen so many people post about them, so I really think I need to make it one of my training tools.
My hubby is full Panamanian and I tried to learn more Spanish when we started dating. I ended up learning how to listen really well, but I have yet to feel comfortable carrying on a full conversation…… unless I have a little liquid courage. My mother in law only speaks Spanish but understands English, so whenever we talk together she speaks in Spanish and I answer/talk to her in English. I’m sure it’s funny to watch us converse.

Some great goals for the new year! My hubby does full ironman triathlons. It’s a bit crazy. I can not imagine running a marathon after swimming and biking! I don’t swim, but I have done a few dualthons. My advice: do a lot of brick workouts! No matter how much you run off the bike in training during the race it’s a bit different. It’s just a different kind of fatigue than anything else. I’ve done 2 marathons before but was still so surprised how my legs felt on the run off of the bike.

I have a whole slew of goals this year, however I’m focusing on consistency to get me there. Reevaluating my progress often. Continuing to move forward!

As a triathlete, I am so excited for you to try a tri! Don’t be discouraged by not having a bike. For a sprint distance, you could easily use bike trainers at the gym and do cycling classes and then rent a bike for the actual event. The experience is definitely different, especially if you are a little rusty at biking, but it is an easier route (and less commitment unless you want to buy a bike).

Good luck in the new year! I can’t wait to hear about all these new things.
