Happy Friday! What a week. First of all, I wanted to say thanks to everyone for the kind words about last weekend’s marathon. It really means a lot to me – y’all are awesome! Second, thanks to everyone who has been participating in our Instagram challenge. If you haven’t, it’s not too late. Check out the challenge here and join us! This week, we are sharing five favorite fall foods. Most of my list is things I eat year round but just feel like fall. Can’t wait to read everyone’s lists! Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend!
- Butternut squash. This is a relatively new to me squash and I first used it in my Butternut squash and chicken sausage frittatta. After that I was hooked on this and have put butternut squash on the table in a couple different forms. Up next is a butternut squash soup – anyone have a good recipe?
- Cranberries. I love cranberries and ever since I made my own cranberry sauce, I’ll never buy the canned stuff again!
- Turkey. I mean, come on. It’s just so ridiculously yummy and I love making leftover turkey and cranberry sauce sammies. Yummy!
- Brussels sprouts. Is there anything better than roasted brussels with bacon? Um, I think NOT. And how fun is it to buy a huge stalk of brussels? It always makes me feel like I’m foraging or something — even though I’m just in Whole Foods. I know, I’m weird. 🙂
- Apples. All the time. Homemade applesauce, apple cider and just apples by themselves. I love them all.
What is your favorite thing to make with your favorite fall food?
Oh, my gosh! I love that we both have Brussels sprouts with bacon on our lists – ha! I also really like butternut squash; it’s a lot of work to get to, but it’s super tasty, right? And the apples – YUM! So crisp and tasty! Great post, Courtney! Thanks so much for hosting the link up, as usual!

And now I’m hungry… Argh.
Amen to some brussels sprouts, and I can’t wait for a turkey/cranberry sandwich now!! I saw a recipe recently for a panini with leftover turkey, cranberry sauce, and brie. Sounds so good to me. Have you ever tried making cranberry sauce with a little bit of orange juice? I failed at the recipe when I did it (long story), but the flavor was good.
I am the only one at my Thanksgiving table that loves cranberries. Sometimes I actually make a cranberry citrus salad. It’s almost like a cranberry relish but it is a side dish. It is SO good!
I had the most amazing Brussels sprouts with bacon at a restaurant one time, and later tried making my own at home. The recipe looked delicious, and similar to the ones I had just eaten. Let’s just say that I never tried to make them again…

Yum, so many great foods on your list. I love everything fall.
Yum to your entire list! I am looking forward to Thanksgiving where I can eat all the turkey! Post Thanksgiving I want to whip up a Turkey- Cranberry panini of some sort.
I’ve gotta try the brussel sprouts with bacon!

Well now I will have to try Brussels sprouts. I don’t think I’ve ever had one. I better try them with bacon the first time!
That frittata sounds good!
And of course, for all your Brussels sprouts lovers, I highly recommend the Daily Kitchen & Bar in Richmond – their crispy Brussels sprouts are out of this world!

Just like you, I eat most of the “fall” foods year round. But all the yellow/orange/red foods (apples, squash, sweet potatoes, etc) definitely make me think of fall. And I think I tend to eat more of them in the fall too.

All hail the Food Network! We never really had cranberry sauce when I was growing up because the jello mold out of can just didn’t seem right. Then my parents watched an Alton Brown Thanksgiving special where he makes cranberry dipping sauce. All natural, no gelatin whatsoever.

Apple EVERYTHING please! Love your list. And I’ve been off butternut squash the last few years (I’m a vegetarian and there was a thing where EVERY restaurant was serving it as their veggie entree and I just got sick of it) but it’s time to go revisit it. Great post!

I love how many people are mentioning brussel sprouts! I feel like they have a bad reputation from being boiled to death when we were kids but they can be so amazing when made well.

Recently, I’ve been loving making anything with apples. I even made my first apple pie last week and now it’s waiting in the freezer for Thanksgiving, so we’ll see how that turned out soon! I’ve also been loving making apple butter; it’s so good on an English muffin and I’m working on a dessert recipe using it.

Butternut squash is the only one I’m like “ehhhh” the rest of them is all like “Bring ’em!” I can’t wait to try your Cranberry Sauce recipe!! Thanks!
Good list! Apples, butternut squash, pumpkin are always big for me. And I can only do homemade cranberry sauce – I just cannot eat what comes out of the can :0

My favorite fall food is everything surrounding Thanksgiving – especially the deep fried turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, and mac ‘n’ cheese.

Great list. I love Thanksgiving turkey, even as much with the leftovers as on the actual meal.
Can’t go wrong with apples. Love them year round but apple cider and apple pie in the fall… perfect.

I love all the foods on your list, but Brussels sprouts are my absolute favorite!! I also just prepare butternut squash for the first time a few weeks ago and am hooked. If you get a good soup recipe, please share it on the blog!!
