Happy Friday! This post was super hard for me to write because I just got back from the Dominican Republic and am not really accepting it’s winter, haha. But here I am. In cold cold weather and ready to be warm again. But that’s okay, because winter brings with it some fun things that just can’t happen in the summer. So this week, we’re sharing our five favorite winter activities. Can’t wait to get some inspiration from this list! Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Cynthia and Mar for the #Friday Five. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link. Have a great weekend!
- Ice Skating! I can’t help it – my first real job was in an ice skating rink and I’ve loved it ever since. There’s a few rinks in DC and it’s a fun (athletic!) date night activity. I’m no pro, but I can hold my own out there. 🙂
- Christmas tree trimming. Since we were out of town, we’re just getting around to picking up our tree this upcoming weekend and I.can.not.wait. I LOVE tree trimming. Listening to Christmas music and decorating the tree are my favorites.
- Spiced cider drinking. This activity will be happening hand in hand with activity number 2. Hello spiced cider! 🙂
- Running past the holiday lights in DC. I actually did this last night and will be doing it again next week with my running group. Super fun and nothing gets me into the holiday spirit more. 🙂
- Skiing – okay this one is aspirational. I will take skiing lessons this winter, dang it! This has been on my list of things to do forever now so I’m making it a priority this winter. Hold me to it, y’all!
What do you like to do in the winter, when the temps drop? (other than head to where it’s warm!)
You worked at an ice skating rink? That is so cool, Courtney! Wow! I’ve never even tried it. We have an area in our downtown River Market that is converted into an ice skating rink each winter; guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet… 😉 Thanks so much for hosting the link up, as usual; sorry you have to “chill”out with us in the cold now!

Ugh, it has to be roughing come home from the tropics to winter weather! Looks like you have a lots of activities to warm you up! You must take skiing lessons! I don’t ski (I snowboard) but a day at the slopes is always a good time!

I’m not letting the winter pass without skiing!!! 🙂
I love the idea of running around and admiring Christmas lights. I’m not an evening runner, but I may have to make an exception.
And I also love that you’re going to start skiing! It’s such a wonderful activity.
Running past holiday lights in D.C would be cool! I’m sure there are lots of lights up! I want to go snowboarding again!

I love skiing and haven’t been in many years. It’s too risky to do it before my marathon though. Maybe after Goofy Challenge I’ll attemp it again.

#1 and #5 are on my list too – I’ve never done them before and want to finally try them this year!

Im really not a winter activity person (I used to snowboard but haven’t done that in years) but I do like running during the holidays! Everything looks so pretty!

Fun to learn that you worked at an ice rink! I’ve never gone ice skating in DC – although as I’ve gotten older its become scarier! I signed up for cycling on Tuesday, but hopefully I can jump in on the run following the class 🙂 Have a great weekend trimming!

Welcome back!! Your honeymoon sounded fabulous. We went to Antigua and reaaaaaally enjoyed ourselves. It was tough to come back to reality. I really enjoy spiced cider myself!! But I’m def a hot chocolate kinda gal! I haven’t been ice skating since I was a kid. We currently don’t have a near by rink… boo! Thanks again for hosting a great link-up!

I love all of these things – although the skiing and ice skating will have to wait until next year with baby on board. Trimming the tree is on our to do list this weekend!
Karen @karenlovestorun
Welcome back! Running past holiday lights is a great idea. I need to find new routes through neighborhoods to see more holiday lights!

I can stay upright when skating, but that’s about all I can say LOL. I’m not a winter sports kind of girl, except for running outside in all kinds of weather. Otherwise, I want to be inside near the fire with a good beer…

So I have a brand new pair of skis that have been sitting in storage for 4 years!! Never used!! Bought them….got pregnant (missed ski season)….gave birth with a csection in the middle of ski season and then we moved here…whomp whomp…

I love ice skating! I would love to run past all of the lights in DC, but I’ll settle for my little neighborhood in Newport News for now 🙂

To go with the cider drinking, hot chocolate drinking. I might treat myself before Christmas and stop by Starbucks for some hot chocolate, with whip cream!

yum!!!
I am the worst at ice skating. I need one of the cones that kids use—but I always think it looks fun! 🙂

We haven’t had time to put our tree up yet either. We’re hoping to be able to decorate it tonight!

I absolutely love ice skating and think it’s greats that it tops your list. I’m hoping to get my trees decorated on Sunday after we move in to our new home Saturday.

I love ice skating as well, I had never done it until recently, and now I’m upset my parents never took me ice skating as a kid. Skiing, however, is a different story, I did that once years ago and have sworn I will never do it again!
I love the idea of running past holiday lights, I love driving past them, running would be even better!

Great list. I skied a little back in high school and want to give it another try sometime.

I haven’t skied in forever. I’d love to do it again soon, but I’m afraid I’d just bust my butt and injure myself. lol

Like you with skiing, I have aspirations of figuring out snowshoeing as a bit of running crosstraining!
Oh, and to be honest, I’m terrified of skiing. I just don’t know what it is about it that makes me have no interested in giving it a good faith effort.
Yum, I’m a big fan of spiced cider. I used to go skiing but I just didn’t enjoy it enough to continue putting in the time.

Are you coming ice skating by our house? Apollo is taking lessons this year. They are going about as well as you can expect ice skating lessons for a three-year old to be going…so you know, mildly traumatic. 🙂
awwww so fun! we probably will go by y’all — i expect to see pics of the ice skating adventures!! 🙂
A lot of people turn their outdoor Christmas lights off around midnight, so I only got to see a handful of lights yesterday morning when I went out for my run before daylight. I need to plan an evening run before Christmas!

I enjoy running in the winter, as long as it isn’t too windy! I also love some hot spiced cider or wine, and visiting the zoo for Holiday Magic 🙂 Have a great weekend!

Oh I love ice skating way more than a Floridian should! I wish we’d get a year-round rink nearby.
My husband loves skiing and we have not been ever because he knows I really don’t do cold weather. However, I am going to force myself out there and learn this year!

Awesome list!
Mine would be:
1. Themed Runs – Gobble Wobble & Reindeer Run
2. Watching Holiday Moves – Love Actually, The Holiday, Elf, & Home Alone are yearly musts.
3. Buy Presents for others. I get too into it.
4. Baking/cooking Christmas treats. Peppermint Fudge time!
5. Seeing houses lit up!
