Happy Friday! Per usual, I’m linking up with my girls Mar and Cynthia and this week we are sharing five fitness goals! I can’t wait to hear about what everyone is gearing up for. Personally, I have some goals that are more long term and some that are short term. Make sure to check out some of the posts in this link up and if you are linking up, please link back to either myself, Mar or Cynthia. Happy blog reading!
- Run a sub two half marathon. This is my next big goal. My goal race is the Navy – Air Force half marathon this September in DC. I’m not going to start officially training for this until after the wedding, but I’m already researching plans and kinda getting excited about committing to tempo runs and the like. After spending months running long and slow, I’m excited about learning to run faster.
- Cross train two times a week. I think this is going to be KEY as I train to run faster. I’m loving Pure Barre lately, and have been going 2x a week, but I’d also like to incorporate some swimming into my schedule.
- Run a sub 60 10k. I am very, very close to this goal (within a few minutes) and I think I could go run a sub 60 10k right now if it was the right course. While I was in Seattle, I ran my organization’s unofficial (but timed) 5k in 26:43, which is pretty fast for this gal. I know I couldn’t hold that pace for 3 more miles, but I do know I could hold a bit slower for longer.
- Run a 4:30 marathon. Yep. I’m already thinking about my next marathon. I do not think this will happen in 2014 — although there is a slight chance I may decide to run Richmond again, but it will happen soon-ish. Once I can run a sub 2 half, then I should be able to tackle a 4:30 marathon. Of course, I know better than most, than almost anything can happen during 26.2 miles – but I still think this is a feasible goal.
- A tri for 2015! Let me clarify: a sprint tri in 2015! 🙂 I couldn’t fit one in this year, so this is on my long term radar!
I love that the Friday linkup girls all have the same goal of a sub 2 half! After reading “Run Less, Run Faster”, I followed the training plan and found that fewer days running and quality cross training really helped my speed. Good luck with all your goals, especially the sprint tri!

it is pretty cool that we all share the same goal! 🙂 you are maybe the 3rd person who has recommended that book to me, so i think i’m going to pick it up!
After my first 10k in May (and probably your wedding 🙂 ) I’d love to sit with you and go over setting some fitness goals for myself if you have time, Courtney?
um, of course! let’s do it 🙂 and you are gonna ROCK your 10k — take me with you!!
Great time on the 5K! Although you may not be able to keep the same pace, I believe you will be able to knock out a sub 60 10K with no problem! Good luck!

yeah, i just need to find a 10k to rock out, now 🙂
If you ever get back down to VA Beach, The Wicked 10K is a great course to PR at. It is a quick course and is completely flat. That is where I ran my best 10K time yet! ~M
Way to go with your 5k, Courtney! I love that your speedy time is giving you the motivation to push yourself towards a 10k PR! And you’re smart to focus on one long distance PR at a time – first the half and then the full. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to focus on achieving both at the same time!

oh yes — i have learned firsthand that it’s VERY hard for me to focus on running long + speed. i can only do one at a time. so next up, speed, then back to running long 🙂
Love that you, Mar and Cynthia all have the sub-2:00 goal! How exciting for #5 – a new challenge! That is def on my list for 2015 as well (not sure what the distance yet) – I miss swimming. Random, but I love all the graphics you post for the blog!

yay! maybe we can find and train for the same one 🙂 thanks for the graphics shout out — i’ve been using canva.com — it’s amazing! check it out – you’ll love it and it’s free!
Sprint tri’s are so much fun! Swimming is usually the hardest sport to find time for. Pool swims are good for first tri’s. Look forward to hearing more about this. Good luck! A sub 2:00 half has always been on my list but not quite with in reach. Who knows what this year will bring.

it’s not quite in my reach yet, either…but i’m determined to change that 🙂 good to know that pool training is suffice for a first tri!
Great goals girl! For me, I know that cross-training is key to staying healthy and having a balanced training schedule. I have a knee injury from hs that still plagues me so foam rolling, stretching and weight-training are key for me to stay healthy.

YES 100%! cross training is SO key — it makes a huge difference 🙂
love, love, love you goals. and I do believe you can get to a sub 60 10k!!

yeah, girl! it’s coming! i almost considered signing up for the 10k for zooma to give it a go then. that’s a tough course though w/the hills…so i decided to stick with the 1/2.
well… I pr’d the 10K course 2 years ago 😉 just sayin… I may drop down to it depending on how Pittsburgh goes!

sub 2 half for the WIN! 🙂
Awesome time on your 5K! I love your goals! Cross training has helped with my speed so much. It’s much harder for me to do but it always pays off!

I read this last night but didn’t comment – we’re all going for sub-2 hour half marathon. So cool! Love the sprint triathlon goal next year – we’ll do the Iron Girl together!
Cynthia @ You Signed Up For What?! recently posted…Friday Five: Fitness Goals
Woo hoo for the Tri goal 😉 And since the DC Trifecta has the same sub 2 goal, I’m sure you will reach it! Support is everything. I like the Run Less Run Faster method. Running 3 times a week seems to work for my body.
