Happy Friday! As always, I’m linking up with Mar and Cynthia and today we’re sharing Five Fitness Truths. Michele came up with this idea and I love it! Hope y’all will link up and share. Have a fantastic weekend!
- I still can’t hold the 90 second plank in barre class. Yeah. Not even close. I can hold a 90 second plank if my arms aren’t tired from the death weights we use at class. Sigh. Someday soon, I hope?
- If there are sweets in my house, I will binge on them (unless they are in the fridge or freezer). So my usual strategy is just to not buy. Because if they are there, I will eat them.
- I sometimes pray for the light not to go my way during runs so I can get a break. I can’t be the only one, right?? I also pray for rain during steamy summer runs. Sometimes my prayers get answered but often I think God is just amused with me. π
- I’m terrible at stretching post run. Sometimes I’ll be one with my foam roller but I am just really awful and forcing myself to stretch. Thus, why barre classes are such a must for me!
- I don’t always walk up the escalators. If you don’t live in DC, this might not make sense to you. See, here in DC, when you are on a metro escalator, you stand to the right and you walk to the left. I generally am an escalator walker but sometimes (like when I’m at the bottom of Dupont Circle headed to work), I’m content to just enjoy the ride. Yep. I can run 26.2 miles but am often too lazy to walk up stairs.
Share your fitness truths!
I totally agree with #2. I am very limited on what I buy at the store. In fact, my husband often says ” the dogs have better snacks than we do”.
Meranda@fairytalesandfitness recently posted…Shape Up For Summer Give Away
yes. i am much better at not buying it than not eating it π
Love your confessions! I try not to buy stuff at the grocery store, but then my husband comes home with tubs of crap from BJs.

ahhhh he’s testing you π
I can only hold a 90 sec plank if I am super hydrated, otherwise, forget it. If there are sweets in my house, I too will binge, but I prefer them to be frozen or cold π
Sue @This Mama Runs For Cupcakes recently posted…Who wants to drink? Wait…I mean RUN with me?!!
i can do it if it’s just a plank. but as a part of a class when i’m already a little fatigued, it’s TOUGH!
OK I have chocolate hidden around too bc we all have those days! I have to force myself to stretch but I am always glad I did.
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner recently posted…Friday 5-Fitness Truths
yes, stretching is always worth it! sometimes i just can’t force myself to do it, though!
3, 4, and 5. Yep.

i’m glad you’re w/me on this π
Ugh, I always get so frustrated when people don’t follow escalator etiquette! I assume its often tourists that aren’t aware of the etiquette, but its so frustrating, especially when I’m in a hurry.

i’m quick to say a firm “excuse me” as i pass π
Same about sweets and popcorn! If they’re in the house I will eat them!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie recently posted…Friday Five (Wicked Edition)
yep – without a doubt π
Agree with #2 but it’s not sweets with me, it’s other stuff. Hard to not bring it in the house.
You totally get a pass on the Dupont Circle escalator – it’s soooo long! Plus I read somewhere that the angles & step height on escalators are different than those on stairs (harder to use as stairs b/c they’re not intended to be used that way). When I used to take Metro, there were sure some days I’d stand. π
M @ readeatwriterun.com recently posted…Friday Five β Five Fitness Truths
thanks! dupont is REALLY REALLY long and i take the metro pretty much every day. on mornings when i’ve run or done barre (most days) my legs are usually just shot!
Yep, I’m with you on only having certain things in the house too. Not only sweets, but for some reason nuts are like kryptonite for me. I can’t have nuts in the house or I will eat them all.
Chaitali recently posted…Friday Five Fitness Truths
we all have our things. i am also kinda obsessed with popcorn, but luckily it’s nowhere near as bad for me as other goodies!
Fun confessions. When I lived in San Francisco, i tried to be an escalator walker, but you wouldn’t believe how FAST some of the other people are, and I got intimidated so I stopped trying to RACE up the escalator for the sake of my health (i.e. tripping and falling on an escalator is not fun business).
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama recently posted…Nutritional Reset – Week 2 Recap
some people kind of LEAP up the escalator – which i’ve always found risky!
You will get there with the plank! Planks are SO hard and 90 seconds is a long time to stay that way!
I’m the same way with junk food too. I pretty much stopped buying it and it has saved everyone in the house a lot of grief!

i can do a 90 second hold if it’s not in a class after my arms are already tingling π but in class it is TOUGH! i’m getting there, though π
I soooo can relate to item #2 because that is definitely MY ISSUE! Don’t bring that ice cream in here because I will eat the entire PINT in a single sitting if you let me.

lol – me too girl, me too!
That’s so cute that you consider not walking on the escalator to be a weakness. Girl, I know you deserve to relax and take a break sometimes. I have my moments too. Honestly, my fitness truth right now is that I don’t want to get outdoors to run because i’m already melting in this Florida heat. Being pregnant during the summer is going to kill me. =) I need my AC!
Haley @ running with diapers recently posted…Friday Five – Fitness Truths About Pregnancy
oh gosh – yes i think this summer is gonna be rough. and YES you deserve that AC π
Hehe – I do the same thing for #3 and its always green when I secretly want it to be red haha! When I was in college I would always take the shuttle to the gym…. when it was closer to walk. My roommates were puzzle.. “Jen you will run X miles at the gym… but refuse to walk there..”

OMG I totally am with you on praying for the walking man to go away on my runs. And all my friends make fun of me for walking up escalators, so I’m glad that you do, too! I tried the Nike Training Club runner’s stretch and I really like it and think that it helps me, but I am terrible at keeping up with it! Loved your post! π
Lindsey recently posted…Friday 5: Fitness Truths
I don’t blame you at all for not walking up those escalators. They are BEASTS!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus recently posted…Five Fitness Truths
haha, it depends on the day – some days i’m all about it…others, not so much π
Great post! Love the honesty! I always felt guilty when I didn’t walk up the escalators too lol.
Amanda H recently posted…Five Fitness Truths
my escalator is so long that i can read a few pages in my book while travelling up π
I am horrible at getting myself to stretch too. I know I need to but I’m so bad at remembering to / actually doing it, even on long runs.
John @ run. geek. run(disney) recently posted…Friday Five; Five Fitness Truths
i did foam roll a bit after my sunday AM long run – one step at a time π
OMG #4 is me! I HAVE to get better about stretching!
And I’m laughing at #5. Yes, it’s DC. You must walk up the escalator (I always do) or stay to the right. OR ELSE.
