Happy Friday, y’all! This week our theme is “goals” I decided to update my “This Summer I Will” post since we’re about halfway through the summer! Per usual, I’m linking up with Mar and Cynthia and we are all pretty pumped about this week’s topic! Enjoy and make sure to link up your Friday Five post. You can read our linkup rules here. Please note that if you don’t play nicely, we will delete your link.
- Um, it probably surprises no one that number one on my summer list of “to-dos” is get married. I am tying the knot in 8 days! I have some guest posts lined up for while I’m off doing wedding things so get excited to hear from some awesome ladies while I’m gone! Success! We got married and it was awesome! I know I haven’t even shared stuff from the ceremony yet, but get ready because it’s coming. Lots of Wedding Wednesdays! 🙂
- I’m super excited to start training for my fall goal race using the Run Less, Run Faster method. Training starts right after the wedding and I’m pumped about focusing on three runs a week, plus cross training! I know a number of folks who’ve used this method with amazing results. Woohoo! Training is going really, really well. This plan is NOT EASY. But nothing that’s worth it is easy, right? Already my paces are much faster and I totally see the value in tempo runs. Never thought I’d say that!
- I will spend a ton of time outside this summer. Between outdoor movies, outdoor concerts, festivals and the like, there is barely any reason to go inside. If I had a hammock in my yard, I probably never would! 🙂 I have spent a bunch of time outside, but also a bunch of time inside, trying to escape the oppressive humidity. Ugh. DC summers can be rough.
- I’ll be doing a bit of travel this summer as well. After my wedding, I will be spending a weekend in New Orleans and then a weekend in Atlanta — both weekends celebrating my dear friend Megan’s upcoming nuptials! Yay travel and yay love! I will also be in New Jersey for my grandfather’s birthday. Fun stuff! Check! New Orleans was last weekend and I know I haven’t written about it yet, but I had the BEST time! We also had a blast in New Jersey. Atlanta is still in our future but I know that’s going to be an amazing trip.
- I will buy most of my produce at farmers’ markets. I love supporting local farmers and the produce just tastes SO much better — the only real time I plan on buying produce at the grocery store is if I get caught in a pinch. Otherwise, it’s farmers’ markets all the way! Not only have I gone to the farmers market every weekend I’ve been in town, this weekend we are going berry picking! I’m so excited and can’t wait to share pictures and recipes from this trip. We’re heading to a farm about an hour outside of DC and I can’t wait!
All in all, I must say that I’m doing quite well on my “This Summer I Will” list. I can’t wait to read about your goals!
If you set out to do things this summer, how’s that going?
Berry picking is so much fun! I need to do that; thanks for the reminder! And I’m so thrilled to hear that you have been able to go to the farmer’s market so frequently, too. Your training is going GREAT, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for the awesome post and the link up!

that’s a good question! probably so – i have a feeling i’ll be coming back with a LOT of berries 🙂
I’m glad you’re goals are going well! I’m currently training for the Chicago marathon and my biggest goal is to train my head to keep me in it to the finish! For me, a tougher task than you might think!

running is VERY mental for most of us — learning to deal with that has great benefits! good luck!!
Berry picking is so much fun! Can’t wait to see what you make with all of your berries!

You are doing so well with your goals!!! Way to go!
I want to take my daughter berry picking, but I’ve been avoiding the Florida heat and humidity too! My excuse is that I’m 8 months pregnant. lol
have a great weekend!
Haley @ running with diapers recently posted…Goals – Friday Five
haha, that’s a completely valid excuse to try and avoid heat and humidity 🙂
I like the idea of running less and faster! I hadn’t heard of this training programme yet. How many times per week do you run? And how fast exactly?
Momshomerun recently posted…My goals are not very Smart
the program and paces are set out in the Run Less Run Faster book…you can read about my weekly training each Monday – here’s the latest week http://eatprayrundc.com/2014/07/21/navy-air-force-half-training-recap-week-four/
I did the same and checked in on my summer goals. Awesome that the RL, RF training is going so well. That’s exciting that you’re seeing improvement already! I think I definitely want to do that training plan at some point in the future.
Jennifer @ Running on Lentils recently posted…Friday Five: Summer Goals Check Up
i recommend it! i’m really liking only having 3 runs, even if they are intense runs!
You’re doing great with your summer goals! I’m looking forward to hearing more about your wedding 🙂

thanks karen — training is going great so far!!
You are doing so great!! Thank you so much for the RLRF update. This has intrigued me for a long time, but even moreso now that I’m so freaking injury prone and 3 runs a week would probably be safer for me. (Even if they are intense.)
Lauren recently posted…Life is just a bowl of cherries! {And a chiro update.}
i think you would love this plan and i also think it’s good for folks who tend to be injury prone because of the spacing out of the hard runs.
I like the idea of supporting the locals… I need to do that more myself.

Glad your goals are going well, you’re doing better than me. I’m doing so-so on my goals, probably done about 2 of the goals so far but we still have about half the summer left so its OK! I can still do them 🙂

i’m loving it so far – i recommend reading the book before deciding if you’re interested.
Berry picking is so much fun! And I know what you mean about the summer heat and humidity, I really only enjoy being outside in the summer if I’m in/near water like the pool, beach or springs. You’re doing great on your goals!
thanks april — i’m feeling really good about my goals for the summer!
Yep, tempo runs are the bomb! I, too, can’t believe how much they’ve increased my speed since I started adding them to my weekly workout.
I should be better about going to our farmer’s market, but I forget every Saturday. Instead, I look longingly at my neighbor’s fresh tomatoes in her garden, and then go to the grocery store and buy “plastic” tomatoes!
Debbie @ Deb Runs recently posted…Possibly The Best New Piece Of Running Gear, EVER!
you’re right, i’m totally a fan of the temp run. i mean, you know, not while i’m actually doing one. lol 🙂
Oooh looking fwd to hearing about your NOLA adventures – looks like you had a great time! I def want to go berry picking – I LOVE blueberries and I know this is peak time.
