Goals for the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler

March 31, 2016 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC34 Comments

I have to be honest – I completely forgot that the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler was two weeks after the Shamrock Half Marathon. Like, completely forgot I have house guests coming for the race, I need to organize a pre-race pic for my Oiselle gals, I would be missing church on Sunday, etc. I’ve been so crazy focused on Shamrock that the fact that April is basically here slipped my mind! Oops! But once I remembered, I decided to go ahead and set some goals for this weekend’s race and since this week’s Friday Five is fitness themed, I thought I’d share them today! Donโ€™t forget to check out Cynthia and Mar and some of the other folks who link up with us โ€“ and please donโ€™t forget to link to your hosts if you are participating!

Cherry Blossom 10Miler Race Goals

  • A Goal: This is the perfect day. The stars have aligned and I run the race of my life. 1:30. This is exactly a nine minute mile pace and is just a hare slower than I ran the half marathon. Honestly, I’m not sure I want to try and run that fast on Sunday but that would be my pie in the sky goal.
  • B Goal: This is an average day. Nothing is perfect but nothing is awful. PR. My current PR is 1:35:58 and that was set at the Army Ten Miler last fall. I’m in better shape for sure, so I should be able to pull out a PR, hopefully.
  • C Goal: This is a bad day. Things have gone wrong and it just is not my day. Um, 1:40? I have no clue what this should be, honestly. If it’s a terrible day, then I’d just like to finish happy.
  • Extra goal: I have a number of friends running & so I hope to see as many of them as possible at the race!
  • Second extra goal: get to the race early enough to not be rushing. I have a bad habit of cutting it close for local races because they are in my “backyard.” This should be okay though because I’m meeting folks for a picture at 6:45 so as long as I make the picture I’ll be good.

Who else is running Cherry Blossom? You can read my race recap from last year’s race here.

I love love LOVE the Cherry Blossom 10-miler! It was my favorite race when I lived in the DC area and I’m totally FOMO-ing over here. You will have a blast no matter what and I think having your mind open to a lot of different outcomes can help prevent disappointment when you don’t do exactly what you want. But I wish you much luck and have FUN!!

Good luck! Hope you meet your A-goal! I used to run the Cherry Blossom Ten-Miler, and my 10-mile PR was set there.

    Thanks for the linkup!

You have really improved as a runner with all the hard work and hopefully you will have a fun day and reach one of those goals. After reaching that goal at Shamrock, this one should seem so much easier and so much less pressure on race dayl.

Good luck! I’m 100% sure you are capable of your A goal, but not sure CB will allow it with so many people. Back in the day (gosh, I sound old), I just missed the 1:30 goal at Army 10 just because I couldn’t get around people in the last mile. Have a fun time!

I am running CB too! Hope I see you I am a little nervous as it’s my first long race in about 1.5 years after having to drop out the last 2 years. I remember the first few miles being really crowded but if anyone can pull it off you can. Good luck!

It is crowded but this will be my 4th time racing this one, so I’m prepared for that. I’m also not really that stressed about it so I think that’ll help. Have fun and hope to see you this weekend!

I’d love to run the Cherry Blossom someday! I think about A,B,C goals for races, but never actually write them down. Usually, it’s while I’m in the race when I think about what I’m hoping to happen and adjust my goals as the race unfolds.

I have always wanted to do that race. I can’t believe I didn’t do it when I lived in NYC or Philly. I guess race traveling was less popular then.

Go for the A goal! You ran a half at that pace!! This is a whole 5K shorter. You got this.

Good luck and have fun! That race holds my 10 miler PR (I don’t get to run that distance too often) but it still goes to show that you don’t have to let the crowds get to you and your A game!

Good luck at the Cherry Blossom! I know… especially soon after you’ve run a super-fast race like your half, it’s hard to want to run that fast again… you still remember the pain of it!
