Grammys 2012!

February 13, 2012 By: project30in2012comment

My good friend Emily has asked me to do a best/worst dressed list for the Grammys. I’m not really sure I’m qualified to judge folks’ fashion choices, but I’m going to give it the good ole college try. I figured since I was writing something, I might as well post it on my blog as well. Look for a version of this post up on her blog soon.

Before I delve into what people are wearing, let me take a minute and say that Whitney Houston’s music punctuated my childhood and I’m saddened by her death. She was an incredible talent, but unfortunately, fell into the trap that too many incredible talents fall.  Her music will live on forever.

And now, without further ado, here are the notes I took while watching the ceremony…

Giluiana looks great in a short black dress with a chic belt. Love her look.

Foster the People – guys look dapper in their laidback looks. Like the blue and white striped shirts that they were all wearing during the performance. They looked about 12 years old, but kinda cute.

Ladies Love Cool James. As always, LL looks delicious. Seriously, the man never ages.

Alison Krauss – ugh. white, long and drapey. But also ugly. Yuck.

Ledisi – love that silver dress, but also wish she had hiked the top of it up before stepping on the red carpet.

Paris Hilton – very understated and elegant.

Corrine Bailey Rae – a personal favorite of mine, wearing Christian Siriano – beautiful black dress.

Taraji P. Henson – I didn’t love her pink dress, although I love her.

Bruno Mars – looks like he looks every time I see him. Love his outfit when he performed. Flashy, but keeps with his usual style. Nicely done, Bruno.

Kelly Rowland – looks beautiful from head to toe.

Adele – as you know, I love her. Initially I didn’t love her look. But after seeing her a couple times, it grew on me. I’m not sure I love her hair color. But I do like the sparkly dress. And I LOVE her second dress, it’s fun and cute and I love the details. I also thought her softer, performance make up was perfect.

Oooh Carrie Underwood – love that look. She looks stunning.

I don’t know who Sasha Gradiva is, but she looks like a mess. Ugh.

Katy Perry – love the dress, hate the hair. Her performance costume was…interesting?

Fergie – I actually love that dress. Risky, but it looks good on her. Okay, I take it back, upon looking at the official picture of her. It’s orange and hideous. Oh, Fergie.

Nicki Minaj – Um. Little red riding hood with a fake pope. Sometimes I’m just not fashionable enough – because I’m sorry, I hated the whole thing. I’m sure it’s avant garde or something. But having someone pretend the be the Pope is a bit weird. I’m also making an executive decision to ignore her whole, scary performance. Seriously, I think it might give me nightmares…

Blake Shelton – gosh he is tall. And very handsome. I love him more and more each time I see him on television. He looked great.

Alicia Keys – Hmm. I like her outfit as she performs. Love that she at Bonnie Raitt performed “Sunday Kind of Love” – beautiful song and both ladies looked great.

Jessie J – love the sparkles. Form fitting, but it works for her.

Miranda Lambert – I like her dress. I like her husband more.

Diana Ross – LOVE her hair. She’s a diva and looks like a fabulous diva every time.

John Legend – always looks dapper. I love the cut of his suit.

Taylor Swift – the dress is beautiful but I don’t love the color on her. Her performance dress made me feel like she should be on “Little House on the Prarie.” Didn’t love it, but it went with her set.

Rihianna– her dress is very very sexy, but I do not love her hair. It’s always fun to hear her speak – her voice is so different from how she sounds when she sings. I feel kind of neutral about her performance outfit – all black and not exciting at all. Very common for her.

Common – Great smile, but I wish he’d dressed up more.

Lady Gaga – what is there to say about her? This was actually one of her more laid back outfits.

Chris Brown – lots of controversy, but man can the kid dance. I liked his b-boy look with the letter jacket. Reminds me of the letter jackets Em created for us for Halloween. 🙂

Kelly Clarkson – Like her dress, like her hair, love her voice.

Adam Levine – Loved his vest and his whole look. Like how his shirt was a little bit different from the other guys in Foster the People.

The Civil Wars – loved her black, short dress with the pleats. Very cute and she looked great.

Robyn – easily wins my “hot mess” award of the evening. Ugh…I didn’t actually see her on the red carpet, but saw this picture. I mean, really, it speaks for itself. How hideous.

Jennifer Hudson’s performance was so incredible that I forgot to judge her outfit. But she looked beautiful with her pretty hair  and classy, black simple dress.

Alright, so who was the BEST and who was the WORST?

Best: Carrie Underwood and Adele’s performance dress.

Worst:  Duh, Robyn. Also, Nicki Minaj. I didn’t love it. And her performance scared me. I’m not joking.
