My goal is to go sub-4 and I’ve been building up mileage and now am officially in marathon training mode.
This week I am taking a long weekend trip and am excited for a bit of downtime. Anyone else have a mini vacation coming up?

Hello friends! As I shared in an earlier post, I have started working with a running coach. I am training for a June marathon – Grandma’s in Duluth, Minnesota. My goal is to go sub-4 and I’ve been building up mileage and now am officially in marathon training mode. Now that I am back to training, I will share my training recap every other week. I hope you’ll join in and link up! You can always follow my progress daily on Instagram, where I share all my runs.
Week of February 12
Monday – 6 miles easy+ core work.
Tuesday – Took a rest day and moved my workout to Wednesday.
Wednesday – Two mile warm up, followed by 8 800s and a 1 mile cool down. Every 800 was at or faster than goal time (~4:00-4:05) except for one. I was SUPER proud of this workout. Especially because it was done after work which I don’t love.
Thursday – Five easy miles.
Friday – Could not pull myself out of bed so vowed to get my workout done on Sunday.
Saturday – 10 miles with my Saturday group!
Sunday – Two mile warm up, 6 miles between 8:50-9:05, one mile cool down. Then I went out later that day for a couple of easy recovery miles.
Weekly mileage total: 40.14
Week of February 19
Monday – Rest day.
Tuesday – I loved this workout. Two mile warm up and then three miles with one minute @ 8:30 pace, and two minutes easy. Followed by a one mile cool down. This was super fun and flew by!
Wednesday – Four easy and slow miles!
Thursday – Seven miles for my long run. I had a small dental surgery Thursday so built a few down days into my plan. Luckily, my coach had already planned on this being a down week so it worked out well.
Friday – Rest and recovery.
Saturday – Three easy recovery miles. Ran at the National Arboretum and it was so lovely.
Sunday – Easy three miles to close the week.
Weekly mileage total: 23.49
Total mileage for this training cycle: 241.41 miles

You had an awesome first two weeks, love the workouts. I hope you can break 4 hours in the marathon because I know that goal means a lot to you. I hope your surgery went well and you can get back out there next week too. Thanks for starting the linkup back and I will start linking up soon too.
Thanks Amy Lauren. It does mean a lot to me but I’m trying to keep it all in perspective because it is just running, ya know? 🙂
You’re already up to 40 week miles? Yowza – I’ve sill got three weeks to get there. Sounds like your training is progressing well – I’m interested to see the schedule/workouts you’ll be running. I just had a long weekend getaway and it was exactly what I needed to recharge and get motivated to come back and throw myself into training….enjoy your getaway. You’ve earned it!
Yeah Becki doesn’t mess around, lol! I’m excited to be in the starting phase of training with a really strong base. 🙂
It looks like your training is going very well! Love your photo from Saturday’s run – you look so happy!
I hope that you have an amazing long weekend. You;re going to Miami right? Enjoy the sunshine! 🙂 I flew out to Cleveland for President’s Day weekend to spend time with my friends from college and it was awesome! A nice little break.
I was very happy to be running!! And yes, I’m going to Miami and I’ll be singing Will Smith’s song everyday until I leave
NIce week of training! 40 miles, huh? I know you are working with a coach but are you doing a Hanson’s high mileage-type plan?
Have a great vaca!
Thanks Wendy! My plan is somewhat similar to Hanson’s but it’s all my coaches own making! She’s just doing her best to get me ready for sub-4 and I’m just trying to do what she asks 🙂
It looks like you had a great start to your training cycle for Grandma’s. I’ve heard good things about that race.
Have a fun long weekend/mini vacay!
Thanks for the linkup!

Thanks Debbie! I’m very excited to get away!
That’s a solid two weeks, even with the bit of downtime because of the surgery! I haven’t been on a weekend getaway in some time, but I feel I need one soon just to regroup! Good luck with your training this week! 🙂
Thanks! I am VERY excited about vacay!
Great job with your training! I hope you enjoy your getaway, I’m longer overdue for one myself! And wow that arboretum looks so pretty, I’d love to run there!
