It Just Got Real

August 5, 2013 By: project30in201213 Comments

This week begins the meat of my Richmond Marathon training. The past five weeks have just been base building and now I begin the slow mileage climb to the race. I’ve mentioned this previously, but I’m doing the “Run Your First Marathon” plan by Grete Waitz. This plan has me peaking with 20 miles a few weeks before the race, then tapering slowly till race day. If you recall, my plan calls for 4 runs a week. I am striving to make one of those runs a speed work run and then of course my weekend run is my long run.

I will be updating the blog each week with my progress, but for those that are curious what the rest of my plan looks like, you can check it out below.  As  I mentioned the first 8 weeks of the plan were base building with runs topping out at 5 miles – now the real fun begins!

I’m currently training for MCM and have Laura from Mommy, run fast helping me with my training strategy. So far, it’s been great. She is a great e-coach.I love the Richmond Marathon! I think it’s a great one for your first. I ran it last year and did the 1/2 in 2010 when I first moved to VA. It really is the friendliest marathon. Good luck with your training and enjoy your race!

Awesome! Thanks for the encouragement — I think you’ll love MCM. Only reason I’m not running that one is that I have a wedding the day before 🙂

I am also getting a little more than nervous about the MCM. You are doing great and good luck!

HOORAY! I am training for MCM and I go back & forth about loving it and hating it. I guess the true feeling will come at the finish line 🙂 Hopefully this nice weather continues for a while because running in July was awful!

Richmond is such a great race! I haven’t done the marathon (did the half last year) and it was so much fun!! Good luck to you!
