ed. note: I am off gettin’ married, celebratin’ and so I hope you enjoy all my awesome guest posts. Today you’re hearing from my friend Lindsay at Lindsay Weights In on how to get your mojo back and make it work. Thanks, Lindsay!
Hi lovely Eat, Pray, Run DC Readers! My name is Lindsay and I blog over at Lindsay Weighs In, where I talk about my journey to lose weight, gain happiness but never sacrifice my love of cupcakes along the way.
I had the pleasure of meeting Courtney as a ZOOMA ambassador while running working the ZOOMA Annapolis booth. In case you’re wondering, she’s sweet as pie in real life!
I’m recently coming back from an injury, and while not completely healed, I’ve been cleared to do much more than I’ve been able to do for the last three months.
I thought as soon as I was cleared to get back to exercise, I’d be absolutely itching to do it. In the beginning of my injury, I couldn’t wait to get back and now that I can workout again, I keep making excuses. I suppose the grass is always greener though, right?
Let me tell you too, I’ve spent the last few days in Utah attending the Blend Retreat (so fun by the way, I cannot recommend it enough!) and the altitude change really got to me. I was having trouble keeping up with everyone, but I know that I can’t blame that all on the altitude. Mostly, I’m out of shape and it was a real eye opener to getting back into working out!
So, what am I going to do to make it work?
1) Join a gym I actually look forward to going to. I had switched gyms almost a year ago to save money, yet never wanted to go. So, to me, it’s worth the extra money to go somewhere I feel comfortable.
2) Plan ahead. Look ahead at the schedules for the gym and pick classes ahead of time.
3) Reward myself for reaching goals.
4) Join in on contests at the gym to help motivate myself.
5) Know my limitations, and what I’m allowed to do and respect that. Mostly, be happy about what I can do and not dwell on what I can’t do.
Do you all have any tips for getting back into a workout groove? Have you ever fallen out of gym routine like me? Please tell me I’m not the only one!
Definitely not the only one! I’ve fallen out of gym routines over and over in my life. I think finding community really helps too. I had joined a yoga studio that was super friendly and I always wanted to go to see people. The same with a running group. Plus, signing up for races means I have to get out there if I want to make sure I can finish the race!

It’s so easy to fall out of the routines, and then so hard to get back into them! Yes, signing up for races and working with others is a definite way to get motivated! 🙂

Hahaha, I love it! This injury has been very testing mentally, but I’m really looking forward to getting back into the game!

Definitely been there!
I joined Team in Training for half marathon training because I needed something to hold me accountable!

Love that! I’ve thought about doing Team In Training or Team Challenge for a race – there’s no local chapters near me though. I’m definitely still considering it when I’m healed, though!

I found that gym/class buddies help me stay in routine, as well as races.
Good luck! sounds like you got a plan.

I need to find some good gym buddies – great tip. I know that will help!

It can be tough to get back into the swing of things coming off of an injury. I think most people either dread it, so they take a while to get started, or they are overzealous and end up re-injuring themselves. It’s tough to find the happy medium. What you have laid out here looks like a great plan. I’m thinking about joining a gym again (I really want to get into swimming for cross-training), but am finding it difficult to pull the trigger because it’s pricey. I suppose it would be worth it if I use it frequently, right? Hope your injury heals soon! Good luck 🙂

I’m definitely afraid to reinjure myself, so I’m trying to take things very, very slowly (probably too slowly!) Exactly! My gym is pricey, but it’s a good incentive to actually get there since I’m paying for it! Thank you! 🙂

Great list! You’ve got this. I always seem to have a hard time getting back into the swing of things when I’ve gone on vacation. I try to work out while I’m away, but I never hit it as hard as I do while I’m home. I’m so glad you had fun at Blend!

Mwah!!! Yes vacations are always hard to stay on track, but I’m hoping I can do that this summer! 🙂 So glad to have your support! <3

I’m right there with you! I fell 31 days ago (but who’s counting), and I can’t wait to get back on track. I’ve used this injury as way too much of a crutch–no pun intended! My injured knee should have no impact on my healthy eating, but it really has. I’m definitely doing a contest or challenge when I get back so I can keep motivated. You got this girl!

Of course! Who’s counting 😉 You’ll get right back into it, I know it! And yes it has such an impact on all aspects of your life, whether it should or not. YOU got this!!
