Marathon Training Recap Aug 5-11

August 12, 2013 By: project30in201214 Comments

As promised, I’m going to start recapping my marathon training workouts each week. I’ve been building my base for awhile, but last week was the first week of actual “real” training so here we go!

Monday: 4 miles in Rock Creek Park. This was a great run because the park is full of little hills that make it just challenging enough. It was the first time I’d ran in Rock Creek in quite awhile and I really enjoyed it.  Sorry the picture is a bit blurry – I’m still learning to point /shoot and run all at the same time 🙂 In fact, I believe I dropped my phone immediately after snapping this. Coordinated, I am NOT 🙂

A view while running in the park. So peaceful!

Tuesday: I did another 4 mile run, this time with a great group of gals from the DC Chapter of Black Girls Run. It was a good, speedy run and while my legs felt a bit heavy, I felt good about the run.

Wednesday: Rest day.

Thursday: Did a speed workout on the treadmill during lunch. More details on this workout later this week.

Friday: Rest day. Spent 8 hours on an amtrak train to Boston.

Saturday: 6.2 beautiful miles around Boston.  Plus endless walking as we spent the rest of the day exploring the city.

We ran around this gorgeous pond.

Sunday: Rest day. Another 8 hours on the Amtrak back home.

Total miles: 18.2 + at least another 5k walking.

How did your training go this past week?

Looks like a great week of training! Also, I have no intentions of ever trying to perfect the art of snapping photos while running. I am just too terrible at it!

Thanks Rose. And it is so hard to take pictures while running. I have to stop to make it work. Meh :/ Blurry photos it is!

Thanks Betsy — there is nothing like a change of scenery to kick your butt in gear on a run!

Boston is obviously a fantastic running city. I got a bit choked up when I saw the BM finish line!

Black Girls Run was HUGE at ZOOMA! You have so many groups up there you’re a part of! Great work this week!

Thanks Emma — you are right, I remember seeing those ladies everywhere! That race was before I started running with them so I’m excited that now I’m a part of the fun 🙂

I’m getting pretty good at snapping pics while running, but have to do it with my tiny Powershot camera. I cannot do it with my phone!

Fun! Rock Creek Park is large and spans a big area — google it and you can decide where you’d like to start your run. On weekends, Beach Dr. is closed to cars, so that’s a great area. I highly recommend it! Check in with me next week — I’ll probably run the Nat’l Mall w/BGR ladies Saturday morning if you want to join!

Awesome! I’m sadly not running Saturday morning because I’m running a 10 miler on Sunday — but enjoy 🙂
