MCM Training Recap, Week 13

September 7, 2015 By: Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC23 Comments

The marathon is quickly approaching and I’m getting excited. This past week of training was a cutback week in prepartion for twenty miles this upcoming Saturday! My gals and I had a great 18 miler a few weeks ago so I’m hopeful that the 20 miler will be awesome as well. I’m also less than a month out from the Wineglass Marathon and I’m getting REALLY excited about that as well. I’ll have a whole post about my strategy and goals for Wineglass – I’m using the race as a long run and so I’ll detail out that plan in a few weeks!

marathon training recap

On to my training recap for this week:

  • Monday: I started the week strong with eight miles with my friend Taryn. She had to run her twenty on Monday and so I said I’d join her for a few of those miles. It was extremely humid and gross but I loved getting to chat with her!  run
  • Tuesday: Pure Barre
  • Wednesday: Track workout – this was a tough one. The weather was pretty bad – 91 degrees and 90% humidity and we had mile repeats on tap. We warmed up with a 1/2 mile easy, then ran 4xmile repeats, then finished with 2x200s (with 200 recovery) and cooled down with a 1/2 mile easy. I was pretty stoked to hit a 6:40 pace for the 200s – yes I know it’s a very brief run but I was still proud for hitting my splits (exceeding them in the 200) for the workout, particularly in that weather. track work
  • Thursday: Pure Barre
  • Friday: Pure Barre. I really wanted to run but I couldn’t leave the house during the day because I was waiting for the A/C repair guy alllll day (literally). So no run, sad face.
  • Saturday: Ten mile cutback run. This was a morning that I almost bailed on the run. I just wasn’t feeling it. However, the run was actually great. I felt very strong, ran negative splits and mile ten was the fastest mile. I actually ran five miles at or faster than marathon goal pace which felt great.
  • Sunday: Rest

I’ve also been doing the Jasyoga 26.2 readiness plan. I’ve been doing one yoga pose each day, along with various exercises they’ve shared. I’m hoping this is one more piece of the puzzle that will help me be ready for October’s racing!

How was your training? Did you experience the same gross heat wave that we had this past week in DC?

I have found my best runs are the runs I need to talk myself in to doing. I dread it all day, finally convince myself to do it and I fly through it.

I know that track! I was just there this morning.

Yeah, the temps this week were miserable. I ran in the morning, though, so it wasn’t as bad for me.

It’s funny how sometimes the workouts we dread the most turn out to be some of our best. Glad you went out and did it.

Great week of workouts considering how brutal the weather was. 90s here too though “only” about 70 in the morning when I ran. Our local weather guy predicts these next few days will be the last hot days of the season. Of course I don’t believe him, but it’s nice to think about! Happy Labor Day!

We had the heatwave here in western NY too. Today is 90. By the end of the week it is supposed to be high 70s….thankfully. I love it when I am dreading a run and it goes so much better than expected. Nice training week!

Your training looks like it’s going great, despite the awful D.C. humidity! That’s so awesome you’re training for the MCM–I love the spirit of that race!

Thanks for posting about Jasyoga, this week marks 5 weeks until the Chicago Marathon so it is perfect timing. The humidity in North Carolina is just disgusting at this point. So over being a sweaty mess every morning, very ready for fall.

That track workout, Courtney!!! You did GREAT!! I don’t know how you manage to make it in the heat; that’s a tough workout, no matter what, but in this weather we’ve been having?? UGH! It’s supposed to cool down just a bit later this week; I’m really looking forward to it. I think you’re going to have a great run this weekend!!

The heat here has been unreal. Mile repeats and longer workouts like tempo runs are really hard in the heat because at least with shorter intervals, you get to stop more which means a water break or a break to wipe the sweat at least. Looks like you got a lot of workouts in with both running and Pure Barre, though.

It’s so awesome you could join your friend for some of her long run. It’s hard to have to do a long run alone on a random Monday so having someone there for even some of it is a huge motivator :).
